Securing hair for Exercise?

My hair really gets beat up when I exercise. What is the best way to get ones hair out of the way and secure? I exercise at home, so I don't care what it looks like.
I currently make a high pony tail with a tie (without metal). I then make a loop on the top of my head with the tail. I secure the loop with 3 metal bobby pins. When secured correctly it holds well, but so many hairs break of it concerns me. I don't know if my hair is just susceptible to breaking or what.
I need my hair secure because if it starts moving it pulls out of the fasteners. I also want the back of my head free for floor exercises. My hair is all one length, a bit short of mid back, fine and straight.
Suggestion...

I would suggest, since you don't care what you look like being at home, to roll it all up under a good secure shower cap of some sort to hold it all in. That way there is nothing binding it like in a ponytail and all that metal paraphenalia that can break hair. Just a suggestion. Peace!!!!!

A braid works for me, it keeps all the tangles from forming. Sometimes to save time I'll just use a hair tie and do a ponytail but I usually get at least some tangling just below the tie...or a huge tangle if it's intense, sweaty, windy exercise. Besides, a braid can usually be tucked under a cap more easily which would really keep it out of the way.

Hi,
I have similar problems.
I have mid back length hair, and am into a lot of wrestling matches for fun and exercise. On the one hand, my opponents kind of like the long locks, but it gets to be a problem as the matches get sweaty
Best tactic for me is a high ponytail to keep things out of my eyes.
Dont know what else to do as I crave rasslin matches all of the time, and I will never give up the long hair.
Good luck, man.
