compliments

I've been self-concious about my hair lately because I've started growing out the rest of my hair (I was just growing the bangs which are to the ridge of my chin now) and the back's sticking out weird and I died my hair black a few months ago and never did anything about it so they're light brown roots for an inch. So a day ago I got at least three different compliments on it. And today I got a big, long compliment on this essay I thought was good when I wrote it and then read over it a day later and didn't like it and was sad and then delighted after having recieved the complim-I've been typing a long time now.
Just wanted to share.

but sometimes I feel people's eyes on me [get away!]...
and I cannot figure out if they are 'liking' my hair or not.
0, well.
compliments are really window dressing

for me it isn't at all what others are thinking... i consciously chose to grow my hair knowing it would draw negative attention from some. granted, i'm lucky enough to work at a place that doesn't discriminate on the basis of hair length- but beyond that- it's all about what makes me happy. if i let stares & negative comments bother me i'd be sporting a more 'socially acceptable' coiffure. sure, the occasional compliment is nice, but hardly necessary.
