want to go long

For the past 5 years of my life (i'm 19) i had had the same hair style which is a buzz cut about 1/2 in length. I have been thinking of growing long hair and was wondering two things.
1). Is there a fast way to do it?
2). I'm kind of worried about my hair looking goofy, me being in college looks are kind of important, sadly. So is there a way to make it look good going from so short to long?

Congratulations on your decision!

Regardless of what anyone else might tell you, or what you might read, there is no fast way to grow long hair. Prepare to have your patience tested. Literally.

The first thing you need to do is break from the social norm that practices that looks are everything. If you can do that, then you'll feel much more comfortable growing your hair. Besides, it's been my observation that men who've let their grow long have wound up looking better with it long than they did with it short.

There is, with styling. However, there will be a 2-3 month period during which your hair is making the "official" transition from short to long where it will not do anything you want it to - absolutely nothing. This is often referred to as the "awkward" stage. You're going to find that it will be your biggest hurdle. The good news is that it doesn't last long. Eventually, the hair gets so long that it finally succombs to its own weight and begins draping your back instead of trying to stick out and away from it. Unfortunately, many men don't have the willpower to "tough" it out at this stage, and wind up cutting it.
Good luck!
Brother...if THAT isn't the Truth...
