How long for a ponytail?

Like how many inches do you think it's appropriate to put it in a ponytail? I can get mine in a little one that's about 2-3 inches but would that just look like a rat tail?

Hey, a tail's a tail. I've been told everything from 7-8 inches up to a foot. The bottom line is, if you can get all of your hair into the tail, then you got yourself an official ponytail. I started putting mine into a tail before all my hair would fit, leaving some that I tucked behind my ears. That looked okay, but I know some who apply mousse, or some other congealant, to hold those loose hairs in place. That way, no matter how much hair is too short, you can at least get the "look" of a complete tail.

I am still awaiting the time when I can comfortably get all my hair into a ponytail. That to me means my hair being long enough to where no hairs have any hope of escaping the band. I can get my hair into a decent ponytail providing I wear my cap to contain all the loose hairs that are currently trying to catch up. Anyway, I have read HERE that nine(9) inches is the comfortable starting length to get all your hair into a ponytail.
PEACE!!!!!
