Another bump in the (long) road

Okay, I'm gonna need some more help here. I think I'm starting to get dandruff. Anyone have any info on what causes it, and how to treat/prevent it? I've recently given up styling products (gel), in case that has anything to do with it. And I usually wash my hair every 3 days. Any information on what I'm doing wrong, or what products work the best would be appreciated. And I'm sure the customers at the grocery store I work at will be most appreciative as well. Thanks.

It's strange, I used to have a dry, flaky scalp but ever since my hair has gotten longer, the flakes and the itchiness has gone away. I also am taking much better care of my hair which is probably the main reason. Don't know what to tell you. Every head of hair is slightly different. I have started recently using a leave-in conditioner every other day in addition to the conditioner I use when I wash my hair. The extra conditioner is a big help.
I feel for you friend. Let us know how it's going.

That is pretty strange, 'cause I feel like I'm taking better care of my hair now than I had before. But I've never tried using a conditioner. This is my first venture into long-hair territory. Ah, so much to learn. I'll try it. Thanks for the advice.

Some gels can flake up and look like dandruff..so give it a few days after washing it all out of your hair and see if you still have dandruff...
If that's not the case, your scalp is either staying too dry or too oily so maybe it's time to switch products..have you tried the aussie stuff?

Thanks Scott. I was beggining to think no one loved me anymore.
I haven't tried any Aussie stuff. I pretty much use whatever my mom buys. (Note to akward-stagers: If you're already getting the poofiness from having wavy/curly/thick hair, it's not a great idea to use a shampoo that gives extra body.) But I've heard a lot on this board about Aussie, so I'll give it a try. I've also devised a theory regarding the gel. I'd discovered before about the flaking, but my theory is this. The comb I've been using is not clean by any stretch of the imagination. I was never really concerned with having a clean comb back when I was using gel. When I finally cleaned it off, there was about an inch thick wall of hair built up from over 3 years. I got all the hair out, but I think that there are still gel flakes on the comb. I've noticed that I get a lot of flakes when I comb my hair with it, but when I just run my fingers through my hair to get it in place, there usually aren't any. Possibility? Thanks again.
