Help with really dry hair...

Hi, i have naturally very dry hair and i find it to be rather annoying especially after i wash it. I hate it, especially now that i'm growing my hair out. I find that if i don't wash it for a day or two it looks and feels much better: a lot less puffy and far more manageable. So what i basically want to know is if there's anything i can do to give it that "day after" look all the time. I've used a conditioner regularly for the past three weeks or so but it doesn't appear to be helping: as soon as my hair starts drying it's one big puff ball.
Thanks a lot.

I am one of the female lurkers on this site - try putting conditioner on the length of your hair first, prior to shampooing, then apply a mild shampoo to your scalp only (it helps to dilute it with water so it will flow directly to the scalp). Massage your scalp gently with fingertips; don't actively shampoo the length, some suds will flow down and do that job. Rinse thoroughly, then condition again as usual. If you do not spend time in a very dirty environment, you can also replace some regular shampooing (say every other cleansing) by "cleansing" with conditioner instead of shampoo, just massaging conditioner into your hair and scalp and rinsing thoroughly. The rinsing agents in the conditioner will cleanse gently without stripping moisture from your hair.
