More long hairs in the Wild West?

I have recently been visiting family on the West coast and Tahoe area and have noticed more guys with long hair than in the Midwest where I live. Has anyone else noticed a geographical distribution pattern like this?

I just came back from New Mexico. I noticed exactly the same thing. I was astounded by the number of longhairs as well as the abundance of facial hair. I also noticed a significant number of longhair men in the (ahem) "mature" age bracket (like myself). I *NEVER* see that here in Chicago.
I picked up a silver ponytail cuff inscribed with a tortoise (my particular "totem")
The difference between rural and urban

I think there is a difference between urban and rural areas. In urban areas, there is a lot of superficial people who spend a lot of money to buy showy clothes and stuff, they always have short hair. But in rural areas, people care less about this so they let their hair and beard grow.
