Frizzies! Nooooooooo!

Heeeeeeeeelp! I'm starting to get FRIZZIES! Nononono! I abhor frizziness in my beautiful straight hair! Gah!
I'm getting them at the top and just in front and above my ears! What can I do to stop this creeping horror?
I've figured out how to stop curling-all-over-them-palce-from-sleeping-funny-ponytailitis, at least, after months of trial and error. So I'll tell ya how to stop that...
After you wash your hair, towel it dry as best you can, which means of course that it won't really be dry but really damp. Then comb it into a ponytail and tie it, and tie it all the way down the length with ties every inch or so. Then when it's dry or before you go to bed, untie it and the insane wierd curliness is gone! So basically DON'T tie it when you're sleeping because then it'll get this funny bend in the middle that looks wierd :P
Help me stop the Evil Frizzies! My hair is ordinary straight with your occasionaly frizzie that was un-noticed and now this happens. Great. Well, when they're long enough I expect that I can 'train' them into straightness but currently they're short and totally kinked into bizzare spirals and swtichbacks and so on...

This is what I do to stop my hair from frizzing. After a shower I always use a polishing milk all through my hair then tie it into a pony tail (without towel drying). Hopefully you wash your hair at night because the way your hair looks after that is not very presentable. Then I leave my pony tail in till the next morning (so yes, I sleep with it in) and as long as my hair doesn't get wet after that it doesn't frizz. Also, when I wear it down I never brush it. I only use a wide-tooth comb. this seems to make a big difference

The frizzies you are experiencing are the result of putting your hair into a tail when it's wet. What happens is this:
Wet hair is 20% more stretchable than dry hair. When you pull it back into a tail when wet, you stretch the hair beyond it's dry stretchability. The hair that gets stetched the most is the hair that is in direct contact with the tie. The other ends of these hairs run right along your hairline. That would include the ones on top and just above and in front or your ears. As the hair dries, it loses it's extra elasticity. The hairs deep inside your tail can slide to adjust to the added tension. But the ones held fast by direct contact with the tie get stretched to the point where the structure of the hair shaft gets pulled apart. First this causes the hair to curl and frizz. Then, if pulled long and hard enough, the hairs break, leaving you with short frizzies along the hairline. Now the next row of hairs away from your face gets to take the punishement, and so on and so on. This yeilds, as you described it, a "Creeping Horror". Eventually, this practice can lead to a "Halo" of short broken frizzies that runs from ear to ear across the whole front of your head. You might be straightening the curls by tying it back when it's wet, but you're killing your hair in the process. When it's wet, leave it down. If you need to control the curls, try an alcohol free gel instead.
