Yeah, I'll never forget Bret Michaels from Poison. He was my idol for long hair back then, although I wouldn't consider them metal. Remember Britny Fox! They had some cool hair too. Then, of course, there was Cinderella, Motley Crue, David Lee Roth, Metallica, Megadeth (one of the best videos for hair was "Peace Sells, but Who's Buying"--did you see that?), Slayer, etc. Rock to metal...hair was definitely "in" back then! Ahhhh, those were the times! :)

You are SO right! Aren't you glad so many of those bands are performing and recording again? In 2000, I worked for Poison and last year I worked for Warrant. They've not all aged as well as Bret, but they all still sound great, I think. I just thank God that the "big" hair is gone. I'm glad, though, that many are keeping it fairly long. Nobody mentioned Slaughter, but every one of those guys has beautiful hair. (Check picture) A nearby Chattanooga metal station has a daily show called "Big Hairy Rock Show) and some 15-year-old boy called in and requested Incubus, of all things. He thought the music there were playing was from the 60s, so the DJ had to set him straight. We all about died to find out the kid had never even HEARD of Motley Crue, so the DJ played "Too Young to Fall in Love". How tragic is that? I can't imagine a world without Motley Crue, can you? ~LOL~

I guess it doesn't want to work. I'll try just Blas.

...that's interesting that you worked for Poison. If you don't mind me asking, what kind of work were you doing for them? Does Bret still have long hair? And I know this is a bit off-topic from the board, but I heard that Bret became a porn star after they broke up! Is that true?! (I like his hair, but no, I'm not interested in renting any video! lol)
And I remember Slaugther; I even remember when the lead singer was in the Vinny Vincent invasion! There was also Whitesnake, Faster Pussycat, Ratt, Def Leppard (sp?), Bullet Boys, Guns & Roses, and Metal Church. Geez that's bringing back memories! I knew some of the 80's bands were recording and performing again, but I think they're having trouble because their sound is "stuck" in the 80's, which is understandable since it's hard to break those roots. Some of the bands were able to either tailor their music to the modern era (U2 and Bon Jovi come to mind), while some others had such a big following that they seem to thrive off that, as well as tweaking their music a bit (Aerosmith). Yeah, I had "Nothing but a good time (Poison)" in the 80's. Music was my biggest influence during that time.

Actually, Poison never broke up. They kicked C.C. out for being a dick and they juggled a few lead-guitarists for a while, but they never actually went away. It's a very long, painful story, but my friend decided to give Poison their very first convention (they'd never had one before) and I helped plan it. At first, it was just supposed to be a meeting-place for the fans, but when Bret found about it, he got personally involved. Unfortunately, I did not get to see the convention all the way through. It's a very long story which involves me, Poison, a lunatic and my involvement with the FBI.
Yes, Bret does still have long(ish) hair, but what he's got under the bandana and/or hat is anybody's guess. ~LOL~ (I have a picture, if you ever want to see it.) There is a video circulating of an encounter with Pamela Anderson that was recorded at some time. Since Bret feels so strongly about not wanting people to see it, I'm not sure if I could watch it. I'm curious, though, of course. I've heard it's really not bad at all.
That's cool that you remember Mark from VVI. Dana was also in that, if I remember correctly. Unfortunately, you're right about the old bands being stuck in that style. Bon Jovi (and Aerosmith, for that matter) will NEVER go out of style, I don't think. Even though Jon wears his hair MUCH shorter than he used to, it still looks good on him. Have you seen Winger lately? Reb Beach is TOTALLY unrecognizable if you remember how he looked in 1989.

I haven't seen Winger since the early 90's. As far as the Bret pic, would you be able to post it? Thanks for responding. It was nice to rehash some 80's memories! :)

While the hair bands were entertaining, I like today's predominant long-hair styles better. I guess it's the emphasis on the vertical rather than the lateral.
