Tool is metal isn't it. lol
I think blink 182 is pop punk, the musics ok i like playing along to blink 182 tracks on the drums travis barker is a quality drummer.
I know old skool kind of punk style is long dread locks like the guy in less then jake, which is better then the spikey hair around nowadays.
Grunge was based on punk which had some metal riffs like love buzz, one of the best songs along with negative creep.

I hate the phrase "pop punk". But even worse, I've heard it called power-pop. I just like to think of it as happy music. Granted, they did get kinda poppy on Enema of the State. But that's what put them on the scene. If my band ever gets the chance to break out like that, and then revert back to our original style, I wouldn't have a problem compromising a few songs, and then complaining about it in interviews. Okay, this pointlessness is over.
By the way, my band isn't completely "real" yet. We've got a name, a logo, a webpage, and a bassist and guitarist, but we haven't really gone anywhere else w/ it. Like practicing. I think we're gonna practice for a couple years before we ask around for a drummer. See, we've never really played string instruments before. Luckily, I got the bass, so I can pretty much BS my way through that. I've tried my hand at writing a few songs, but I only get through about one verse.
Here's a link to the webpage.
Semi-Valid

I'd say the fact that PUNK asked if there were any long-haired punks here makes his post semi-valid at the least. His post has a hell of a lot more relevance to it than some of the other posts that I've read on here (For instance: Ozzy will be on a talk show tonight. WHAT DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH LONG HAIR?!?).

I'm into pretty much any type of music, but punk ranks pretty high on the list. *Cue heated debate music* Blink 182 is the best ever, hands down, no question. I know lotsa people think they aren't punk, but I don't really think it matters. I just love the music. And they're funny as sh*t too. So what're you thinking? Punk or not?
And I have some "real punk" cd's too. I got this Descendents one 'cause it had a song called "I Wanna be a Bear"

I wouldn't call them "best ever" but they're one of my favorites. I got the chance to see them live this summer with what I probably consider the best ever, Greenday, and both put on a heck of a show.
More on topic: there were a suprising amount of longhairs at the concert, given the nature of the show.

F*ck yeah, dude, that show was the best I've ever seen. (Although my experience is quite limited.) I was 8 rows up, but bummed that I wasn't in the pit in front of the stage (asking all the moshers to calm down). I've been to 3 blink shows. Was this the one w/ Travis' amazing flying drumset?

Sure was!

ive found some of the emo stuff is quite good, and of course the white stripes although thats not technically punk. come to think of it most of the "punks" ive seen have short hair, unless you count a mohawk.

hey PUNK, thought you may get a kick out of this... This is a response I issued to Edgecution re: long hair as a necssity for great rock bands:
Having to maintain long hair just to appease your fans and remain synonymous with like-minded artists IS conformity in itself.
... And regarding that comment that no band is a "real" band unless the singer has long hair, well, I'm not so sure about that. I'm not a very big fan of punk, but I respect real punk music (NOT anything that you'd hear on the radio or see on MTV except for established innovators like The Ramones and the Sex Pistols) for the political overtones which give meaning to the songs. From what I've seen, Long hair is not something punks generally put up with (Mohawks are about as long as they seem to get). Look at Henry Rollins: Do you mean to tell me that Black Flag is not real music? The Dead Kennedies?
But since I don't care much for punk, let me ask you about a couple of bands that I am familiar with: TOOL. Maynard James Keenan once had incredible long hair, but had it shaved off in time for the Laterus album. Tool is amazing, in spite of the fact that their singer is no longer a long hair (I think he still uses wigs as props, though). And although my saying that they are amazing is very much an opinion, I'm sure many would agree with me regardless of how much they actually enjoy the music simply because it is so complex, unique, and varried. But getting back to long hair (or the lack thereof) in Metal bands, what of PANTERA? If I recall correctly, Phil had a shaved head when the video to "Walk" was shot.
Many bands have coupled the exacerbation of their sound with the shedding of locks (Metallica, Aerosmith, Pearl Jam), but I doubt the two qualities are directly related. There is usually a third factor or series of factors that accompanies crappy music and the cutting of hair; I don't think its a case of Samson shedding his locks and losing all merit after the fact.
