Is The Mullet Back? Would You Wear One?

I first started letting my hair grow out about two years ago. Since then, I've deliberately kept it in what most readers here would call the "awkward" area, getting maintenance cuts at least four times a year, partially because my hair is thin enough on top that I have to cut it to maintain the proportion. But that was fine with me--never thought "awkward stage" looked so awkward on me, and never thought of myself as the pony tail type anyway.
Two weeks ago, I went back to the barber and he told me, "Until a few months ago, I never would have done this, but now guys are asking me for this look." The result was tighter on the sides and bulky and curling out in back and at the corners, in other words, a lot more "mullet"-like."If your wife hates it, come back and I'll fix it," he said.
I'd never really had a mullet during the early '90s. Not that I didn't try, BTW, but I could never get it to grow out the right way in the corners. As I left the barber, I wasn't sure whether I wanted to walk around in public with this. Or whether the neo-mullet had really shown up anywhere except on a few runway models a few years ago. Or whether he was just messing with me to see what I'd let him get away with.
But my wife didn't hate it. She also didn't think it looked like a real mullet because it wasn't super-short on top. (It really looks more like something that would have been on one of the members of Glass Tiger than a real hockey player-style mullet.) And with my larger face/head, it actually doesn't look bad. So I'm running with it, at least for now. And wandering the streets of NYC's east village where I work, I do occasionally see mullet-esque touches on somebody's medium-length hair.
But what do you guys think?
Are you starting to see touches of the mullet creep back?
Would you wear one (or anything that sorta looks like one) in 2003?

I don't know why the mullet gets such a bad rap. Most of the mullets I've seen look fine. Some are even fantastic. Just like any other style, there are some that look good and some that don't, for whatever reason. And, for those guys who have decided to grow their hair long, a mullet is often a good starting-off point. It allows you to get used to longer hair and how best to maintain it. I've seen guys with waist-length mullets that I'd give almost anything for.
The mullet also allows the wearer to have his long hair AND to have more traditional (or radical) shorter hair around his face. This can present a more masculine look that some guys might prefer. Thus, giving the mullet wearer the best of both worlds, the shorter hair for that GQ look, and the long hair for the senuality and love of beautiful long hair.
I'd certainly rather see a guy with a mullet than with a buzzed or shaved head. Now those are two "styles" that are truely hideous.

I must admit...mullets do look good on some guys while...
not on others...don't know why, but it's true.

I am starting to see it return, mainly with drivers of mid-'80s Camaros (yup, the stereotypical Mullet wearer) around here... Personally, now that I actually have long hair, and not just a mullet, I would never go back. The mullet just looks too dorky to me... That's just my opinion, of course.

I came across this not too long ago in while surfing...
www.runonsentence.com/human_resource/clips/emmys.htm
The article quotes: "Hottest Male Hair Trend: The modified mullet. See Brad Pitt, Dylan McDermott."

i probably would not wear the extreme version of the mullet....but modified versions? sure. i too keep my hair in the awkward-ish stage becasue that is what i like and what works for now. sort of a shag cut i guess....just above shoulder and layered at the bottom and sides with long bangs.
i know many here have very strong feelings regarding the mullet, and they are entitled to have them. but as much as they might hate to admit, some truly do look nice on different guys.

I am growing my hair long and then when I get sick of that I am getting the most extreme mullet imagineable!
Mullets are so ugly they are funny.
Oh and btw I'll only have the mullet for a week max...just for comedy value.
