Need some advice please

I lost track of how long I have been growing my hair out. I guess its still in the awkward stage. If I take some time I can get it to look pretty good. My hair is very thick and somewhat straight. I was wondering what I should be doing with it from the moment I get out of the shower. After I shampoo and condition it I leave my hair slicked back from the shower. I usually just blow dry it and part it with a comb. This is very time consuming and it leaves the back of my hair looking pointy or broken(even though it is not). But If I let it dry naturally it all hangs down perfectly. The only problem with that is the bangs. It's almost impossible to brush the bangs with the sides when my hair is dry. None of my hair stays in place. Even if I try gel. Are there any methods which don't involve excessive combing or brshing when its wet? I would just liek to leave my hair slipped back and dry and part and fall down on its own without having to worry about it looking weird. My final question is once I have long hair where its about shoulder length. How will I go about drying and combing it? I can't wait until its long enough for a ponytail. Only a few inches to go.

ok, try this: put a small amount of some sort of "gunk" in your hair while in the shower (either leave-in conditioner, oil, or gel) then towel-dry it until its damp. comb it straight back and blow-dry, while running your fingers through your hair. after that it should fall in place perfectly.

Sounds like a plan. I'll try that. Just a few questions. When I put gel in my hair in the shower should I rinse it out somewhat? The gel I use is supposed to be applied when the hair is wet. The only problem is, because my hair is so thick it takes ALOT of gel to keep it in place. So should I just use as much as I need? I like this gel because it dosen't dry hard or smell bad. Do you think it could work if after washing my hair just comb it all straight back and then let it air dry?

Try Coconut Oil. I've been using it for the past few days and it works wonders. You only need to use a little.
You need PINS & gels...

Don't laugh...I'm serious...
If your hair is a tough problem, you need STRONG countermeasures...
to ATTACK it until it grows longer...
Aussie Natural Gel is light control....
Aussie Smoothy Gel is even STRONGER.
Put it into damp or dry hair and style...
Insert hair pins (bobby pins)maybe one or two on each side of head.
WHAT does this do? It anchors some of your hair to the lower levels of hair, keeping it flat against your head.
DO NOT TOUCH after drying. The more you touch it...the poofier it will get.
Hide the pins well. Just grab a small bit of hair and push it
way in until it disappears...
I sometimes wear them out in public & nobody sees or notices them at all.
All I can say is that the pins (along with the gels) helped me
GREATly through the worst parts of the Awkward Phase
Good Luck
