...for genuine Hippies™...being a Longhair meant something
that was completely different from what it means today...
Back then, it stood for MANY things like: being a Rebel...
NOT following the 'Rules'...
REJECTING what 'society' was dictating at the time...
YES...it even stood for being pro DRUGS...(surprise...surprise)...
TODAY it can stand for the same things depending on the individual but...
nowadays...the 'focus' seems to be on the HAIR ITSELF...
...the FREEdom....the BEAUTY....the FEEL of it...the GLORY...
...amen

I was a child of the 60s and was a true hippie long hair and
all.
I was a rebel, didn't follow the rules and questioned everything
including a war that we never should have been involved in.
I never used drugs, never had any desire to. Taking LSD and
other drugs sounded too scary to me.
I was one of the first to have long hair back when we
got in trouble at school for having long hair.
The more things change the more they stay the same.
I look at our current war against terrorism and wonder
if this country will make the same mistakes it made in
Viet Nam.

though I'm only 20 I have alot of respect for the hippies. the influence of the movement could still be felt through the 80s and 90s. though there's not much of anything like a counter-culture today :/

I've heard of them, but around here (texas) they seem to be non-existant, I didn't even know the movement was still going.

...and with millions & millions of hippies out there, back then...
society was NOT destroyed...although, it DID change very gradually...
Hippies, for the most part, were rather a peaceful lot.

hehe my friend calls me a hippie cause I have long hair and smoke weed. I agree with the points you made though, but I have to ask this: Since when did Hippies become a trademark, and who owns that trademark?
