Deep conditioning

I have seen several people here refer to "Deep Conditioning"
What exactly does this mean? Do you use some kind of special conditioner or what? Also,is hot oil treatmeant considered deep conditioning?

Anyway, I do not care much for those hot-oil treatments.
A nice conditioner like Physique Deep Hydrating Conditioner is
OK but expensive...
...for half the price, Aussie MOIST Conditioner is great...
