i went and bought aussie moist conditioner today, and i noticed on the back it says, "best if used with aussie moist shampoo". is this necessarily true? should i go buy the shampoo as well? also, how often should i use conditioner, is this an everyday thing? i also bought neutrogena t-gel as i am having some problems with flaking/dandruff... do i condition after using that? thanks for any replies, i just want to make sure i am taking proper care of my hair as it's growing.

Well, I didn't want to believe it and so for a long time
I did not buy the MOIST Shampoo.
But I finally gave it a try and it IS true. They do work better together.
I also add some L'Oreal MELTING Gel into my damp hair to control
my hair and those pesky flyaways...works for me...

You hair is going to smell like the conditioner so, in my opinion,
the brand of high-quality shampoo you use really doesn't matter.
Having said that, if you like the fragrance of the Aussie conditioner
the shampoo is the same, it has an impressive lather, it is
reasonably priced, and it is someting specific to look for in the
shampoo isle. That last point is really why I tried it. There must be
fifty different shampoos on the shelf. Are they any good? I have no
idea. People here recommended Aussie so thats what I got. It works
and it got me out of the shampoo isle without having to make a big
decision.
As to how often you should condition... I'm still learning myself.
Here is what I know. The conditioner puts oils back in the hair that
get removed by shampooing, washing (rinsing), sweating, and styling.
How often to condition really depends on what you are doing with your
hair.
I would use the t-gel before conditioning. When you are rinsing out
the t-gel and then the conditioner don't overdo it as you don't want
to strip all of the medication from your scalp. It would really be
better to use the t-gel on a separate day from conditioner but
unfortunately it leaves your hair quite nasty (side effect of
medicinal ingredient). When you first start with the t-gel you will
use it more often then when you finally get the flaking under
control. BTW, hair gel can cause a lot of flaking that looks just
like dandruff. I found this out the hard way.
Good luck with your hair growing and keep us updated on your
progress.

As you probably have gathered from reading this board, what works for one person may not work for another, you just have to find what's right for you.
For me...when I started growing my hair long I tried my wife's Aussie Moist shampoo and conditioner on occasion. It turned out that I had to wash my hair more often, it would look greasy and dirty faster. So I switched to the regular Aussie and it works great for me.
However I've been fighting an itchy flaky spot. Not sure what it is, not overall dandruff, but it was driving me nuts. Nizoral cleared the same up once before and seems to be a good choice. But I found a very natural solution that seems to be working, you just have to be diligent. I'm using Keune So Pure Renewing Hairbath, all natural. And since it's only in a spot I was told to try tea tree oil on that spot. The oil not only helps, but this is a natural fungicide in case that's the cause. Just put a little on the spot on the scalp, say before you go to bed. Doesn't look too oily the next day that way. All natural approach and I'm sure it must be less damaging than the tar-type dandruff shampoos.
Just my 2 cents. Seldom post here, but always read. Thanks to all for the informative stuff posted here.
