ph balanced?

what does this mean,& how do i tell if it is or not?
when i got a trim yesterday i told the girl i had been using the cheap stuff(aussie) she said always make sure you get a ph balance of 4.5 to 5.5 how can i tell & where can i get a good one?

Many of the pH balanced ones state as much on the label. Many soap-related products are higher on the pH scale than we would like for hair. I think a higher pH may help with creating suds. A luxurient lather may be a sign of a high pH. Don't quote me on this, though. I need to double check my facts.
