Well i started parting my hair when it was about 1-2 inches, i gelled it a lot then for a good few months, now (9 months on) my hair has a nice parting in the middle, i think youve just got to train your hair that way for a while.

maybe after washing and towel drying your hair...
you might use just your fingers to part your hair...
Hair grows round & round several different areas so
maybe there is no such thing as a 'natural' part.

How can a parting get lost? Surely it's not there until you make it by combing your hair forward and running the tip of the comb in a line from back to front?
If I waited for my parting to happen I'd wait forever!!

For me, the "brush back, push forward" technique doesn't do the trick completely. I think you'd said that your hair is very similar to mine, and it sounds like we have the same problem here. What I do is brush my hair back, cover the back of my head with both hands, and push it all forward, 'til my hands are a little past the highest point on my head. At this point, my hair is usually standing up, and I shake my head just a little. Not to completely mess everything up, just enough to separate it a little. Then, I get the comb again, and start combing the hair down near the side of my head. This should further the seperation, and reveal the part. Hope this helps.
Also, one thing throwing me off was that my natural part is really close to the center part I had been using. It took me a while to understand and finally accept that. Any other questions, I'll try to answer.
