from the mouths of babes...

I got a chuckle this weekend while on walk, I passed a family going the other direction. Their 3 year-old (I'm guessing) pointed at me and asked "Mommy is that a lady with whiskers?" Kids these days!

Ya, most comments I ever hear are from little kids. They are being trained one way and as they are exposed to other people outside their little family they try to make sense of what they are seeing. They will often remember "unusual" things like long hair on men and eventually it may cause them to examine parts of their upbringing. This process of examination is good to help develop their minds and understanding. I can care less about what adults think about my hair but I love presenting a visual challenge for kids just by going about my business.

You're absolutely right. Kids (especially that age) haven't learned to be anything other than honest about their impressions of the world, and if the parents are honest with them then the kids can grow to enjoy a world of rich diversity. Unfortunately that seems to be more the exception than the rule.

over the holidays we reunited with family, and some little girl (no clue who she was, I didn't know most of the people there) asked my mom "is your son a boy or a girl?" and she went on and on and just couldn't take the fact that I didn't have short hair, talk about humiliating.

It really sucks for people with/growing long hair in school, each day is a uphill struggle in there with all the small mindedness. Ive had everything from 'hes got a perm' to 'are you going to have a sex change when your older?'. Adults dont seem half as bad... Im still going though!

I know what you mean Will. What's worse is that most of it comes from the male gender. Their not doing theirselves any favours by limiting themselves.

I always get the best remarks from kids about my hair and tattoos. They haven't been corrupted yet for the most part. It is adults that give the idiot remarks.
