[damned thAT DAMNED caps lock!!!]
When somebody was ask a personal question and they did NOT want to
answer, they deflected it by replying: "That's not up for discussion"...
I might try using that next time someone decides they are going to ask me negative-
sounding questions about my personal choices for having long hair.
*ARE YOU EVER GOING TO GET YOUR HAIR CUT?
*WHY DO YOU HAVE LONG HAIR?
*DON'T YOU THINK YOU'D LOOK BETTER WITH SHORT HAIR?
*YOU'RE NOT COMING TO MY FUNERAL WITH HAIR THAT LONG!
* etc., etc.
REPLY: My HAIR is NOT UP FOR DISCUSSION!

It is shocking what kind of emotional ploys families play at funerals. Years ago I attended the funeral of my cousins' grandmother in Ottawa, Canada. I was standing outside the church when one of my young cousins arrived, just off the plane from Los Angeles. His hastily-arranged trip probably took two full days. He was a musician and had spiked, purple hair. He was wearing a suit and had obviously done his best to look "conservative" but he couldn't have done anything about his hair on such a tight schedule. Outside the church his grandfather wouldn't even speak to him. Several family members tried to tell him to STAND OUTSIDE THE CHURCH during the funeral service. We went in together and stood in the back. This young man loved his grandmother and was willing to endure the wrath of his family to attend her funeral.

he had made the effort to travel ALL THAT DISTANCE to be there.

Here's some other replies:
: *ARE YOU EVER GOING TO GET YOUR HAIR CUT?
"Are you ever going to learn manners?"
: *WHY DO YOU HAVE LONG HAIR?
"Because I CAN and it's there!"
: *DON'T YOU THINK YOU'D LOOK BETTER WITH SHORT HAIR?
"No, that's why I've opted for it long!"
: *YOU'RE NOT COMING TO MY FUNERAL WITH HAIR THAT LONG!
"You'd be in no position to stop me after you're dead and I may choose to skip it for something more fun ! Besides, you may outlive me!"
: * etc., etc.
