hoping for some styling advice....

Hello all, i guess what is called a "newbie" on here....
Anyway, here is my question: Have been growing my hair out for about 2 years now and I have long straight hair that is a sort of "page-boy" cut although it is not ALL even length. The length is just above the shoulders and the bangs hit just below my chin. The very top hair is about 2 inches from catching up to the bottom line at the shoulders. I have been just getting it trimmed every so often and will until it is all caught up and even. In the meantime, there are several problems i have been having:
1-The bottom back part does this flip thing (it gets better every-time i cut it though) and the only way it goes away is if i flat-iron it or blow my hair dry. What is the cure? a particular product or what?
2-What is the best way to keep hair in a pony-tail? When i do, the very front hairs start falling forward. I hate hair that is crunchy or un-natural feeling so i never use gel or wax products. (i would rather not look at bobby-pins as an option)
3-Wondering on shampoo and conditioner suggestions. I have noticed that when i do shampoo (about every 3 days) the ends seems on the dry side. I do condition only after i shampoo and have tried both the leave in kind as well as the wash out version.
Well that is about it.
Glad i happened on this site...just found it by brousing around on google.
thanks

Welcome to the best board on the web!

No cure until it just gets longer. The flip will go away with length. In the meantime, do what you're doing and be patient.

Either use a little spray gel or hair spray (there are plenty of good ones out there that are mild) or pull the tail up higher on the back of the head to where you get all hairs in the tail. Even then though, I think you'll have some fly-aways. Even I have them and I've had long hair for 25 years. Don't fear spray gel or hairspray...just get the right one!

You can condition as you prefer, be it only on shampoo days or every day. I shampoo and condition only twice a week. I recommend always using a leave-in conditioner. Always. I apply a leave-in after I wash, and sometimes on the days I don't.
You may try using a good deep conditioner (like Aussie 3 minute Miracle) once or twice a week. Wash, then condition, then after rinsing the conditioner apply a deep conditioner for 5-10 minutes and rinse. That should help. Also, try using a product called "Thick Ends" and apply it to the ends of your hair. It's the best stuff I know of for the ends, but it ain't exactly cheap. It'll make your ends look much better.
