Frizzy Poofy Hair After Washing It
Posted by william on February 19, 2003 at 02:23:26: Previous Next
I have got a problem with my hair. Whenever I wash it and condition it it is always very frizzy and poofy like right after it drys, and for the whole next day. The only time when it is not like this is when I dont wash it for a day. But then my hair ends up looking more black, and greasy than the light brown that it really is. It was real bad when my hair was long the way I like it. I have used all kinds of shampoos and conditioners and my hair is always the same. All that I want is for my hair to be more soft, and managable like. The way my hair is now I can lift it up and it will just stay up. I hate walking in the wind because I look like an idiot. Does anyone know of any kind of special shampoo that I can use? Or just anything that I could do?
thanks

Try a layered cut.

: Try a layered cut.
I say try leave-in conditioners first. No need to cut or do layers when it may actually make the problem worse.
I say go buy several different leave-ins. Most are pretty inexpensive. I use a "cocktail" of several leave-ins. My hair looks perfect when I use them. If I don't, it can be pretty poofy and frizzy.
A layer cut may actually make things worse. A cut should be the last resort.
the problem is the shampoo

My hair does the same thing, and I find it best to use very very little shampoo, less than the size of a dime, only only 2-4 times a week, NO MORE. Shampooing isn't 'natural' for human hair. It's not meant to have all those chemicals on it every single day, and while some hair does fine with it, I, like you, end up looking like a french poodle if I shampoo my hair with too much shampoo.
Go for enough shampoo to spread a thin layer over both hands, and massage it into your SCALP, not the actual hairs. You're washing your head, not the hair. Rinse it off, and use a rinse-out conditioner and a leave-in, too. I do. The key is not washing as often, and not using as much. It doesn't make you into a greaseball if you can find the right moderation.

Try a couple drops of jojoba oil in your hair after washing it while it's still a bit damp. Works great for me.

Hey, I tried Bon's suggestion of using less shampoo and focusing more on the scalp, and it worked. I'm a guy and I have really wavy/poofy hair, and I don't spend a lot of time on my hair, especially not with gels or sprays or anything. Good tip, Bon
