How to ponytail my hair?

Hi,
My hair is getting to the point now that when the wind blows I get hair in my mouth, get strands of it caught in power windows of cars at the auction where I work, and other general annoyances. It's time I ponytailed it I think.
The sticking point is thus.. I don't know how to do ponytails, nor do I know what I would need to do one (Other than the obvious requirement, hair of sufficient length), or the cost of whatever I'd need to buy. (Hair ties of some type?)
My hair is about 6, nearly 7 inches below my collar line at this point. I'll be making a trip to Wal-Mart this Friday or Saturday, perhaps someone can help me out.. I'll be going to a concert on Saturday night, it'd be cool if I could show up sporting a neat pony tail rather than out of control hair.
Emails, as well as posted replies welcomed.
Qapla'!

To tie it, pull your hair back behind your head to the height you want the tail at. some go for nape of the neck, others mid back, and others topknot.
gather it all into one hand, then pull the circle shaped tie over it all. next twist the tie so it looks like an "8" laying on its side like this "OO" with the hair in one circle.
then pull the tie over and the hair through the other circle so that it looks like this "O" again.
youll have to change hands when you do it, and its kind of hard to explain in text. diagrams. its best to watch someone do it.
hope that helped.

You just need some ponybands. They are about a pound for a pack of 10 - very cheap anyway. There are a few different types, some have a thin metal tube that joins the band together, and some have no such metal tube and are usually fatter and softer. I recommend the latter type as they are easier to put in, and the absence of a metal tube means that you won't snag your hair too much.
Good luck, keep growing!

Go to the main page of this board. At the top find "Upload Picture". Click on that, then look down and click on "View the upload folder."
Then scroll down the pics until you see these pics. Note pics are in chronological order, so scroll down to 23 Feb 02. Start at ptail00 and work your way up.
This is better than trying to explain it, don't ya think?

I think this one seems to show the "hardest" part of tying a ponytail...
Although it does baffle me how someone could find it hard... If you've ever used an elastic band, you know how to "double-back" by twisting it, and the rest really speaks for itself...
