There is an interesting recent Discussion about split Ends on the Board.. funny, sometimes Things tend to cumulate..

Well, it happened last Sunday that we had a visit by some Relatives wich i havent senn for more than a Year.
There was going to happen an very interesting Conversation, when she said:
"you have got really liong Hair now, whats the matter with you?"
and i replied:
>i like it that way an will let it grow further on!
Then she asked me when i have had my last Trim, and my Wife replied:
"it has been over a Year, and HE HAS SPLIT ENDS!"
>how could you see THAT over a Distance of nearly 2 meters??

BOTH replied: "You HAVE TO HAVE split Ends over that time!!"
looking closer..2 Minutes..Triumph: "one split End...and another one..but very few for that Time"
The Solution of my Aunt:
"That`s mens Hair, its tougher than female Hair (!!)"

I did not gave a Comment, just thinking about all that dying, curlig, drying..

And their Opininons about split Ends:
- they will crawl up to your Scalp (is that REALLY possible??)
- you will have to cut more than 10 cm (see below)
- your Hair will grow faster after the Trim (!!)
(that would be an anatomic Revolution; haow do the Follicels know whats giong on at the Ends!)

Anyway, next Day i took a little Time and my Microscope:

- Split Ends can be up to 1 cm long. Probably that is the Lenght
where one Half gets off as "Hair Breakage".

- Hair can split not only at the Ends but ant any of its cm`s.
The Ends are only the oldest and therefore the weakest Segments.
The in-between-lenght can break by "forced out" Tangles, tight
Hair Bands ect.

- i was able to "produce" split by pressing on a Hair with a
Screwdiver. Without much Force.

My Conclusions:

- it is the best to take Care of the Hair in order to PREVENT Damage.
(there are some Specialists on this Board who relly know how to do)

- A TRIM will even up the Ends and cut SOME of the split ones, but
not THAT much, because the individual Hairs have different Length.

- getting rid of(as much as possible)of those split Ends would be a
good Thing, for they produce more tangling and more Splits and the
resulting Breakage will slow down the growing Progress.

- visit an Expert.

Next Day i went to the Barber, Specialist for long Women`s Hair...
The Procedure was:
parting the Hair in many, many little Strands and twisting them until
the split Ends (and perhaps the in-between-Split)stuck out rectangular and could be cut.
It took about one Hour.
There was very little "cut-off" on the Floor and it looked just as if i had emptyed my Razor.
Not any of the Length was gone..
