More advice needed............please!

I've started taking Biotin 2day, hoping this helps!
But could still do with advice on approaching the subject with family (who can be slightly opinionated and don't that I'm growing my hair yet) - not going to be a nice chat!, and friends (mainly short-haired).
Also, as my hair's only 2-3 inches on top (but quite thick) and quite short at back/sides (absolutely hate this style!) is it best to grow it into a style to start with (i.e. longer on top with bangs)?, or should I just give up the styling completely and let it grow (will this start to look quite bad after a while??)
Also, as I've said, my hair usually grows fast, so with that and Biotin, anyone have a rough idea how long til its a decent length (either shoulders or tie-back length)???
well...if your family...

If your family and/or friends is against long hair...
the complaints will not end for a long time and some
will have 'something' to say forever.
It's just a part of Life. If you can deal with it...great...
but if having long hair is a *problem* with these people, then
get ready for a life long struggle.
Maybe the real question should be: are you a Longhair...heart & soul?
If you are, then long hair will make you feel *whole* and
it will be worth all the complaining you may have to put up with..
Time will tell.
Good Luck!

Yeah, I've really wanted to grow out my hair since I was about 13-14. As I'm now almost 19, I am absolutely sick of the standard 'Short back & sides' - it's sickening going to the barber. Maybe people will accept it over time, especially when its long enough to stay in a ponytail, but as far as I know there have never been any other longhairs in the family, so I might have a really difficult time avoiding the barber for the first few months! Although I would really love to have at least shoulder-length hair, do you reckon its still worth it?

I have really wanted to grow my hair since I was 13/14. As I'm now 18, nearly 19 I reckon I've thought enough about it and it was time I DID something about it. As far as I know, I will be the first longhair in the family, which is why I'm worried about their reactions. Maybe it won't be too bad when its long enough for a ponytail, but for the first few months and the awkward stage (what length does that occur at, by the way?) I think they might have a lot to say on the matter. I am so sickened by the routine 'short-back-&-sides', that I hate going to the barber, but I think I'll have trouble not being forced there oer the next few months. I'm really wanting at least shoulder-length hair, but do you reckon its still worth it?

i know the feeling, my family never shuts up about my hair
my mother especially keeps giving me the
"its not natural for a man to have long hair" bull
(to which my reply is "no it is, SHORT hair is whats not natural) or the always popular
"You Look Like A Girl" LOL which is utterly ridiculous because i do not in ANY way look femanine
if they disaprove of it remember it's YOUR hair and your choice, NOT theirs, try not to let them get you down

no dude your hair will naturally grow into a "style" of its own. think about a horses mane, does a horse do anything with its hair? no, it just grows like that and looks like its supposed to. once it gets long you can think about doing something specific with it, but while you're growing it out its best to go for the "natural" look.
