Should I kick ass?

Hello fellow long hairs,
I was in the grocery store the other day waiting in line to pay for my edibles when I noticed this big beefy guy and his portly princess giggling and looking my way. My hair is VERY long and neatly combed back, which appeared to have been the center of their amusement.
They, on the otherhand, looked to me to be a couple of frustrated failures in search of an easy target to boost their pathetic egos. I am not that small,5'10" 165lb and in great shape. He on the otherhand was about 6'2",around 200 lb. I would say about 3/4 of his weight was in his gut and ass.
I know him and his orangutan were just having a good time giggling at me. I was just waiting for one of them to pull my tail. There was a case of Classic Coke in the bottles near by. I knew I could have had at least half a six-pack jammed up both their peep-holes if they made their move, but no move was made.
It is really frustrating when you have to run into jerk-offs like this. I just thought I let some of you guys know what it is like for the long hair sometimes.
DON
whoa! . . .

Well, Don, I'm glad nothing actually happened...such as tail-pulling and
Classic Coke bottle ramming!
I know it can be difficult being a Longhair...
and sometimes it's not even the adults...but kids!
Some kids just stare...or glance...
can't blame them really, as they are just curious...or amased...or
bewildered.
Maybe I am just lucky, but I've never actually been laughed at by
a kid--or an adult for that matter.
Maybe we just need to be more secure in ourselves and
not worry about what is going on in the minds of...
STUPID people!

Dude...you gotta understand that people whom are "different" usually get the brunt of the joking. It's unfortunate but true. My son...at between 3-9 had long hair (down to his back) and always wondered if it was worth it, used to ask me if the teasing was really worth it. I used to tell him..."Be yourself and just remember that people not like you are afraid of being unlike the norm”. To me it's no excuse for violence...it's more a reason to hold your head high and smile with them and hope they get the joke. THEY are than the joke that they think you are about. You are who you are and God bless you for standing up for it...ignore their ignorance and continue being you...I'm sure you're beautiful!!!

this type of thing happens all the time i'm sad to say
i thnk it happens more with the younger type of people
it seems, at least with kids you can't really blame them because they get there knoledge from their parents and this backwards society we live in, but aside from that they always tend to be very non-accepting of the ones who are diffrent, i know the feeling first hand as i was very ostracised like that as a kid (wasent over hair, it was more over the genral way i thought, as in too mature and not wanting to do the stupid thngs they all did, but thats another story)
now it also seems to be just as bad with the teenager/early 20's group, so many act immature and are fearfull, and therefore HATEFULL of people who are diffrent. especially people there own age who don't act or think the way that they do.
my reaction to someone who does stuff like you described about those people is, if somebody comes up and laughs at me i will turn around and laugh right in their face and tell them that i'm laughing at their ignorence and lack of inteligence.
if you use that reply they usually get confused and leave you alone
but i rarely ever get that from people
but remember don't go psycho on them, as that will only give them something else to start on you about
just be strong and be confident that you have the strength to be an individual

I wouldn't get so upset about this, it isn't worth risking a heart attack over. For those of you who saw the pics of my boyfriend (a few posts below) you can see that he has very long hair, and he never gets messed with. I can't imagine the type of person that would make fun of someone over their hair...
On another note:
My 10 year old son decided to try the "skater cut" from the 80's with the long bangs. His paternal grandmother wigged out and attacked him with the scissors. Now that sucks....

Attacked him with scissors? Hope he's okay. You might wanna get grandma checked out too. (I know, it wasn't funny.)

You can't go through life fighting everyone. Your odds of survival decrease the more conflicts you get involved in.
A few snickers from strangers mean absolutly nothing. At the end of the day you still have your long hair so nothing has changed except that you exposed some socially programmed individuals to another view than what they are used to.
Don't get mad, rather take some satisfaction about what you know and they don't.

You were smart to just think about hitting him with the coke and not actually doing it.
People like this just need to be ignored. I know that is very hard to do but that is the best way to deal with jerks like that.
I was teased in school because I am half American Indian and in high school my hair was shoulder length and I know people thought I was weird and geeky because I have worn glasses since I was ten. I will admit that it bothered me at times so bad that tears were not far away.
Anyway, if you ever see them again I would just walk away and get as far away from them as possible.
Good luck and I hope you learn to just ignore people like this.

Hi Don. Just read all the above advice and comments and I have to say they’re all good sound practical suggestions. I was in a similar situation once and this real obnoxious guy comes right up to my face, flicks my hair and says “looks like the circus is in town”. My blood began to boil and without thinking I stuck out a stiff jab which landed right on the end of his nose and knocked him backwards over a park bench. His friends looked from him to me to him, pointing and mouthing words with no sound. They where obviously a little surprised at the development. Its was almost like they thought having long hair makes violence not an option…that day it wasn’t an option, more a hot blooded reaction.
I coolly turned and walked away. No one followed. For about a week I kept waiting for the cops to call but luckily they never did. When I realized I got away with it I have to say I was on top of the world – better than I have ever felt by ignoring it or making a smart comeback.
Before I get a load of follow ups telling me that what I did was wrong and illegal…I know and agree with all this. I could have got a criminal record for assault, or possibly even retribution from this guy & his friends on some dark night. Luckily I didn’t. I just thought I’d give you a different perspective to this scenario. What you do is your own choice.
Good luck…And keep growing.

Is this story true? Because it doesn't seem to be coming from anyone in particular.
Are you the same "Anonymous" that has posted before or are you a completely different no one in particular?
Anonymous advice like that should be taken with a gallon of salt.
(must have been fun waiting all week for the cops, makes one feel all warm and fuzzy inside)
