Hair pins-second call
Posted by Adi on May 09, 2003 at 03:16:21: Previous Next
Hi all.
I've posted a few days ago a message regarding my "awkward stage 2" and my problem with my bangs flowing with wind(I'm at 20 months).
I've seen that Gollan has the same problem and I'm considering starting using pins as well.
Problem is I don't want it visible even from a short distance so I'm intrested in techniques to hide it as much as possible.
So, if you have an idea(an attached picture will be excellent!) please share it with me(BTW: my bangs are pretty long-their tip can almost get into the ponytail).
Luckskind, can u send a picture visualizing the idea u suggested for Gollan?
Thanks,
Adi.
HIDING HAIR Pins...

Girls do not care if their hair pins happen to be showing...
but most guys will!
Here's what I do:
Almost all my hair can be tailed now, but I do have a few strands
that will not stay put. So I take about a 2 inch (or less) and spray it well
with some gel.
Next I take a hair pin and grab only about 1/4 inch or so of that strand inside the pin.
Then I slide the pin in and under my hair securing it well
to the hair underneath.
Next I smooth the rest of the hair around it...just enough to hide that
1/4 inch of pin that might be showing.
Sometimes I spray just a bit more gel over the area.
This holds the hair in place for most of the say.
IT IS IMPORTANT NOT TO KEEP TOUCHING YOUR HAIR all day.
But if you have to, take the pin out...add some spray gel...
and re-insert the pin in the same way as stated above.
The HAIR PIN works in TWO ways...
1. It anchors some of the hair to other hairs closer to the scalp
taking off some of the WEIGHT of the hair. WEIGHT is usually what pulls your
hair down. The pin...in effect...makes your hair ACT lighter.
2. It allows the hair that is not pinned...to cling to the already
anchored hairs (by means of the gel). And so the unpinned hair
holds on to the the pinned hair...
making all of them quite HAPPY!
Anyway...it works for me until
my hair is better behave...
Good Luck!

So last night after reading all this about the pins (not including the advice
from luckskind), I decided to try the pin thing. I guess I'm just
a bit uncoordinated but I couldn't get them teeny pins to stay hidden.
Kind of a hassle too - so I'm back to my first plan, that is to
just enjoy this whole phase for what it is - a temporary and ever
changing phase.
Thanks for posting the procedure - I gave it a shot but it's just
not going to work for me. :-)

Just don't worry about the visibility. I have used bobby pins to control my long hair while in public for years and was surprised most at the LACK of response from others. As long as they are used just for practical purposes most people will just let it pass. Your friends may say something at first but they soon get used to seeing you with bobby pins and soon ignore them. Women are quite understanding since to them a bobby pin is just a useful tool, not something that says "female" to the world like many men think. They just assume that you need the pins to control your hair.
If you do wear them in public do not exude that "oh, I'm really so embarrassed", guilt ridden look that many male wearers of femme styling project. Just try to look like you have been pinning for years and "so what of it" look.
So just use the pins and forget about it.
