Choppin Bangs

My damn hair is so long it's driving me nuts! My hair is mustly all one length accept it's breaking off and falling out from pony tailers. Now I don't no if my hair is getting pulled out or just falling out in the front from old age!! If I cut my bangs short would that make any difference or is there any altenative since I'm also sick of hair in my face?
