Trimming the neckline

well, i've been growing my hair for around 8 months now, and it's really, really scraggly. i have very thick hair, but its getting a bit of length to it now, so it's starting to straighten out. anyhoo, i'm curious as to whether or not i should shave off the annoying cowlicks on the back of my neckline, they make it look like i have a mullet and it pisses me off.
basically, will my hair still look good in 6 months if i shave off the mullety bit on the back?
thanks,

Yeah, we just had a few discussions about that very recently and if you scroll down a bit you will see one under "yet another undercut question".
It won't hurt anything to clean up the look of your neck, it's not an undercut and won't look funny. Just don't take off more than needed.

I shave the NECK hair below my natural hairline. I have found through experience that it is easier to keep these trimmed regularly (every other month or so) than let them go because it is harder to see the natural hairline when the neck hairs are quite long. The way I trim them is to put the back portion of my hair into a tail and then shave the back of my neck until I get to the row of hairs that are long enough to go into the tail. The NECK hairs are easy to tell because they are NOT long enough to go into a tail. They grow slowly and are essentially body hair, not head hair. BTW, my natural hairline is not straight, it more like a wide "W" and that is how I leave it.
Finally, this process is a WHOLE lot easier if you have someone else do the shaving, someone who clearly understands that it is NOT OK to shave off even one or two long head hairs.

I've never trimmed the neckline. It'll look fine when it gets longer. I went through the same stage as you are currently in. If you begin now, you'll always have to do it.
I wear a shirt and tie to work...my hair looks very neat pulled back during the day.
I do recommend regular trims. Your hair WILL grow and look better with regular trims.
