Making medium length hair look shorter
Posted by Mr. Nostril on May 19, 2003 at 23:36:46: Previous Next
I have medium length long hair (it hangs down to the middle of my neck). For the next three months or so I may have to cut it for a position in my church. However, I am curious does anyone know of a way in which I could do my hair to make it look somewhat shorter, so perhaps I wouldn't have to.

Says who ??? Whoever is attempting to enforce this on you has no right to do so. Only cut your hair if YOU want to. Leaving questions of faith aside, do you want to belong to a church that attempts to control its members like this ?
(Cue endless thread of biblical quotes.....)

Listen, I do not plan on cutting my hair, and yes, I do go to a church that's more conservative than I would like. I don't need advice about standing up for my individuality, or not letting other people control me. I need advice about a possible style that could make my hair look a little shorter.

Hi!
Is it possible that your hair could be pulled together from sides to the back just enough to make a small tail for now? (You would have to double-up on the Pony loop to hold it in place.) With that done, if long enough by now, Center-part your hair and pull all you can behind your ears. (You might want to use a bit of gel or something to hold all in place as well as possible.) It is really amazing to suddenly behold a somewhat conservative-look by doing this. Actually, it looks rather conservative MUCH shorter when seen head-on. I know from my own experience in doing this myself with hair that is straight. It might be worth a try. Perhaps you can let me know if it works? Good luck.

Curling the ends under can make your hair look somewhat shorter. You can do that with a round styling brush and blow dryer, or even a curling iron or rollers. Maybe not the best look for a guy though. If your hair is straight, making it curly would shorten it, but a perm is probably not a good idea, and otherwise it would be a lot of effort.
A bit of a misunderstanding

Apologies for the misunderstanding - you said you WERE going to cut your hair in the initial post and I went off at the deep end !
Good luck.

Try slicking it back with a pomade or something and tuck the sides behind your ears.

I don't know about concealing long hair in back but for top hair you might check out these pics.

Why would you have to cut it for your church? What is their line of reasoning (or lack of reasoning) on this?
