Counterfeit Haircare Products

I am getting concerned about fake haircare products. The link refers to a Canadian recall of counterfeit TIGI products. I am posting it mainly for it's educational value because these fake products were purchased at a Toronto salon (major city), not some dollar store (as I would expect). Since Aussie has changed their formula I feel free to look around for a new shampoo. The new Aussie formula is, in effect, a new shampoo. I've been thinking about trying more salon products because I already tried the Paul Mitchell shampoo and it is very nice.
My point is that if I start using salon products I will have to figure out how to avoid the fakes. Not only are counterfeit products a waste of money, they could be a health risk and damage the hair. The fact that fake products were purchased from a salon in Toronto makes me wonder just how common are fake products?
