Question for Dan and others

I've just looked at your website and noticed that you seem to have completely changed your appearance as well as growing your hair. A bit of a personal question (none of my business - tell me to *u*k off if you like !) but was that a conscious decision to change your whole self not just grow your hair ?
My own experience (years ago)- and I know this sounds corny but it's true - was sparked off by that line in a Springsteen song ('I wanna change my clothes, my hair, my face') which inspired me to grow my hair, have my teeth fixed and lose 5 stone (about 70 pounds).
To keep this on-topic - my general question is 'Anyone combined feeling good about growing their hair with other positive changes to their appearance' ?

Hi Big L,
Congratulations to you. It feels great, doesn't it?
I started growing my hair (stopped cutting it?) about six months prior to starting to get my act together with diet and exercise, so I can't really say that they were related from the start, but I have changed my career direction, moved from NJ to Boston, and have really eliminated a lot of negative stimulii from my life. As a result, I'm much happier now than I could've ever dreamed. I have a much more positive outlook on life, and I've been told it really is apparent in my personality.
Without trying to sound too motivational speaker-y, the events of the past year plus have really taught me that you truly can achieve anything; you just have to apply some grit, some willpower and be willing to take charge and make things happen. If you sit back and wait for thm to happen, life passes you by. As far as I know, you only get to do this life once, so you damn sure better enjoy it. Live every day and squeeze every last drop you can out of it.
Sorry to stray a bit from appearance, but I hope this helps.

Seems like there's quite a few active participants on this board from
the 'Boston area' (myself included) I think LucksKind is nearby and
BRGallagher's shop is in Portsmouth, NH, USA.

Cool! Though I don't have a car, my girlfriend does, so I've been trying to coerce her into a quickie Portsmouth trip to see Bruce, but we're both super busy with school and work right now, so it keeps getting pushed back.

Dude, I can't get over how thick and healthy your hair looks. You also have an awesome low hairline with absolutely no recession. I have added your site to my compilation of hair growing sites on my links page.

Thanks. Both of my grandfathers were bald and gray in their late 20's. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen a picture of either with color hair! OTOH, my maternal grandmother has a full head of 85% jet black hair in her 70s, so maybe I get it from her. The thickness is a blessing and curse...it can be very hot and large at times, but i'm really starting to get to the point where I can enjoy it and it's finally easy to tie back. The hairline is ridiculously low...makes hats and bandannas look funny at times, but I always say that I could recede a full two inches without looking like I'm balding. :-)
Thanks for all the comments, everyone!
GREAT advice...I'm in..

the same category, I guess...as about a year + 4months ago...
I started making the changes you mentioned and...that change is
certainly getting me closer to my goals.
I agree with what you said (including Goethe) 100%!

I'm in the middle of doing something similar, changing my whole body and appearance in addition to letting my hair grow. I had had the vague intention when I started letting my hair grow that I wanted to change more than just that aspect of my appearance, but it took until recently for that desire to crystallize into purpose and action.
Dan's right: you can accomplish what you're willing to work for. (And you're right, his transformation is awesome!)

You bring up a good discussion point. I have so many pictures of myself from the past 12 years and I look completely different in each one. I shaved my head bald 2 years ago in February. I have had just about every single short-hair style that is imaginable from Bald, Crew-Cut, Flat-Top, Parted left, center and right. Inluding my facial hair, Full beard, just a moustache, gote, sideburns long and short, you name it, I done it. I have always wanted to grow my hair long since I was young, but the military ended that when I was 18. I never could get through the awkard stage. Last year in February, I was at 7 months of growth, but had a honeymoon to attend and did not want to go there looking the way I did, so I made a mistake by getting a perm. By April of last year, I buzzed it all off for the summer. Here I am now at 10 months of growth (The longest my hair has ever been). The journey this time around has been pleasant thus far. I once again look different, my wife supports me but honestly does not like the awkard stage of my hair (She is also a stylist), but she understands what this means to me. She even just mentioned the other day how long my hair has really grown thus far. She sees the back of my hair swinging from side-to-side when I turn my head. I have another friend who is at 2.5 years of growth and looks good. He has that whitish hair and is curly. He also has been growing his beard from his chin the same amount of time which makes him look like Santa Clause :-) He has completely changed his looks. I know that a part of me is doing this for a new look. I will let it grow as long as it will grow so that I can experience this journey to its fullest. I may then however decide how long I like my hair to be. Maybe cut it back to shoulder length or keep it very long. I do not believe I will ever cut it short again unless I really begin to bald. I have some thinning at the top back of my head, right in the center. I am using Nioxin for the time being and supplementing with vitamins to see if it helps out. We will see, only time will tell.
