Braiding Your Own Hair and Such

I was wondering if I could braid my own hair into one braid going down my back (a French braid, I think it's called)? Can anyone give me a link to a website that explains how to do this step-by-step, or maybe some of you could give me REALLY detailed instructions on how to do this? I don't have any money to buy books or instructionals or anything on this. By the way, I don't know if it matters, but my hair is straight, and sleeve-length (almost to my elbows). One last request: What other things could I do with my hair besides a French braid, a ponytail, and letting it down?

I recently started doing this, french braids are kinda hard but still possible. heres a good site that sherri mentioned a while back:

on a side note, something Ive found that helps when braiding your own hair is to use a bandana to hold the sides of your hair up while you braid it. I cant wait for my undercut to grow out so I can finally have a full french braid.

I've found the perfet method for brading my hair, my wife does it
for me. I have waist lenght hair, tried braiding it myself. It is not easy. Having someone like a wife or girlfriend makes it
much easier.

One way I have tried at times it to take the hair in front
and tie back to ponytails just over both ears. With fine
hair it really adds width to your look. Also shows off
earrings well because it holds those front hairs hanging
in tails just over the ears. Also have tried those
little clips to hold the front hairs up and over the ears.
Gotten a bunch of complements also.
