Colouring

I have been saving for long hair for about a year now, and it starts looking good (I can finally have a little ponytail :P). I never asked my hairdressor about tips regarding saving, so I don't have much knowledge about keeping my hair healthy or whatever. I haven't encountered any problems yet, but I still have some questions.
First of all, I have been colouring my hair using various products from Wella and Schwarzkopf at home from the beginning. Is hair colouring harmful in any way? If I should happen to regret colouring it, is there any "way back"?
I live in a really frostbitten country. Does extreme changes in temperature harm the hair in any way (down to -25 degrees in the winter)?
Great forum by the way :)
Well...

I would think that hair would be damaged more by HOT than by cold
temperatures.
Use a good-quality shampoo. Don't know about Wella or Schwarzkopf...
but if the main ingredient is sodium laurETH sulfate it's probaby good.
By "saving" your hair, do you mean "preserving" or "protecting" it?

By "saving" I mean, well.. waiting for my hair to grow longer? :P
Sorry, but sometimes my English gets confused with my Norwegian native language. Therefore the rough translation..

In all honesty, that is exactly what we are doing, isn't it? Saving our hair by leaving it right where it is. On our head's instead of being swept up off a salon floor to be thrown in the trash! Well put, my friend! Peace!
