The Geometry of Hair

I like long straight hair, because it makes the head look like a triangle. If you look at the book-cover of Simon Singh's book called Fermat's Enigma, you will notice that Fermat's head is in a triangle! It seems fitting that the book is about mathematics.
Also, I like long curly hair, because it makes the head look like a ball. I like long hair, because of the various geometric shapes that it can make.

Who is that longhair in the picture, Isaac Newton, Robert Boyle, Plaise Pascal.
Furthermore is the book a mathematical text on the study of longhairs -- ie. hairological study.

No! Look at the title! It is Pierre de Fermat!

Not at all. The triangle in the circle that you see may have something to do with geometry and mathematics, but Fermat's head just happens to fit inside the triangle. I don't know if that is a deliberate effort on the part of the cover designers or not, but I assure you that the book has nothing to do with the hair styles of the seventeenth century. ;-)

Hey, dude, I simply like long hair! But now that you've mentioned the shape of it, one of my minor pet peeves is people wanting you to furnish photos and insisting that they be a defininte shape, which is inevitably taller than it is wide. My hair is part of my head, and with it, my head just isn't shaped like that!
A taller-than-wide photo of my head either looks mis-cropped, or it cuts off most of my hair, either one of which looks sloppy. They cut off so much of my hair in my driver's license photo that it doesn't even look like me. :-(

I agree, the hair should "bump" out on the sides. It is nice to have a head that is wide as it is high, whether in a triangle or a square or a ball. But sometimes the picture of the head gets so BIG that the hair on one side or the other gets cut out!

I think that it is because your Motor Vehicle Department is interested in your FACE, rather than your HAIR, which can be changed, cut, etc.

Don't feel bad, Bill... I don't know anyone who's driver's license actually looks like them! But it does seem odd that any photographer would be willing to cut out what is obviously a part of what we look like! It's not a very accurate representation then, I think.

Any relationship between Simon SINGH (of Fermat's Enigma), and Raj SINGH (of "The Significance of Male Hair")?
