Toweldrying... dangerous?

I've heard a bit about how toweldrying can remove natural oils from your hair etc. etc., but I was just wondering, when should I toweldry it, and for how long, and/or why NOT to do it... and what are the alternatives?
Also, if I use a hairdryer (something about which I have been asking a great deal of questions lately), should I keep it on cool, or on hot setting, and why would it make a difference?
I just do the TOWEL-SQUEEZE

Wrap the towel around your hair (usually I get out the excess water first)
then I press the towel against the upper parts while squeezing
the lower, longer part BETWEEN some layers of the towel. (I NEVER RUB
or shake...we are talking about hair, here).
Next, I remove the towel and check the 'moisture level.' If it is still
'too wet', then I reapply the towel and repeat the above.
Then I put on a thin, 100% cotton robe and let the hair fall against
it while I shave, etc. (the "etc." implies nothing).
This absorbs some of the moisture that WILL continue to travel downwards.
Next I apply the gels etc. and may use an additional squeeze (of the towel) if necessary.
Good Luck!

Take it from a haircare specialist (for whatever that's worth)...yours is a most sound and no risk (of damage) regimen. Congratulations! Glad you shared it with us.

Thanx! When searching in the dark for a good way to dry one's hair properly...
it's reassuring to have an expert tell you that
you're on the right track!

While I don't think too many will regard this as practical, ever since I resolved to grow my hair out, I haven't done anything to dry my hair, which is to say that I've been letting it dry out on its own, naturally. I don't use a towel, nor do I blowdry my hair; it dries soon enough on its own, and I like the feeling of moisture on my skull.
I guess I should mention, however, that I almost always wear a bandana, so if I have to go out immediately after washing my hair, I usually tie a bandana on 5 minutes after washing, and I suppose it (The bandana) probably soaks up a bit of the water that would otherwise drip from the end of my hair strands.
