Earrings and Other Accessories

David's question about earrings got me thinking about an idea to share a few methods of wearing ponytails. I've employed these, myself, over the years. I thought you all might like to see how they look, and experiment, yourselves.
I'll begin by sharing a pic of the Ankh I described in my reply to David's question, as promised:
It's just heavy enough that I feel it every time I wear it, and just light enough that it doesn't strain my ear.
Next, your standard issue elastic hair tie:
I never wear these. Haven't worn them in years. However, they were designed specifically for one purpose: keeping tails, of any style, in place. In other words, NEVER WEAR RUBBER BANDS!! They WILL rip your hair out upon removal, and are an absolute bitch to put in (I learned from experience at an early stage of hair growth)!
Next, the Scrunchie:
These are more commonly worn among women, however, I have found them to not only be the single most comfortable style of hair tie I've ever worn, but the safest, as well. They also conveniently come in different styles, patterns, and colors, so you can match them with your wardrobe. I used to own one in Forest Green, and one in Blood Red, to match a couple of long-sleeve denim shirts I used to wear, but I've since tossed the shirts and, thus, the green and red scrunchies. Most of my wardrobe is black, now, so I only wear this one anymore.
Here's a pic of me wearing it:
Finally, something that you will very likely only ever see on one other man's head, besides my own, in your lifetime:
This, folks, is a ribbon. Not the kind you'd find in a beauty store, however. Nope, I picked this little number up at a craft store. They had spools of this stuff on a rack, in various widths. This one is 2.5 inches wide. I had it cut to a length of 36.5 inches (I had experimented until I found a length I was happy with), and is made entirely out of Satin.
I got the idea, believe it or not, while watching an INXS video for their song New Sensation. Their lead singer, Michael Hutchins, was wearing one with a black, 3-piece suit. It was a popular thing among men, a couple hundred years ago. The only significant difference, now, is the absense of a white wig. Funny thing is, I had never even CONSIDERED wearing one until I saw the video, and thought, "Wicked!" So, I adopted it for myself, and voila!
To see Hutchins' (the other man) ribbon, just click on the link below and you can check out the video as well.
One thing I should probably caution you on:
A ribbon is NOT to be worn if you have ANY reservations about either being mistaken for a woman (as if the long hair won't do it), or thought to be gay. You won't get a lot of people asking about it, but you may hear varying comments about it; usually behind your back, while you're on your way to where ever you're going. My rule of thumb is too ignore such remarks. If they can't comment, directly, they don't deserve the time it would take for me to turn around and explain it to them. I have never had anyone, outside my immediate familiy, directly me ask about it.
There you have it! I don't have a lot, but what I do wear, I thoroughly enjoy!
A point of clarification

The one exception I have to not wearing a basic hair tie is when I'm wearing my ribbon. There's actually a hair tie holding the tail secure. The ribbon is strictly for show.
Also, forgive me if multiple postings of this message appear. I was experimenting with different ways of sharing the pics, and wound up having three copies of the same post queued for screening. I had also edited a final draft of the post to include the clarification about the hair tie, but apparently this copy was past the test, first.
I contacted the webmaster about deleting the remaining two. I can only hope he'll catch them in time.
Ah.

You answered my question before I asked it!

Oo. I *like* the ribbon look. I'm a history dork, and that's one of the things I really wish today's men would bring back.

WoW. . .I love that ribbon. They were worn extensively in Colonial America and by its Founding Fathers.
Your hair is fantastic. Looks like you certainly know how to take care of your hair...
O, I think your shredder needs emptying. . .he..he!
Interesting pictures and information

Nightfall, thanks so much for posting your pictures and descriptions. Your hair is awesome and I would be very happy to have something even half as good someday. Male hair ribbons were apparently a fashion at one time so perhaps with the trend toward long hair we can bring them back. The cynic in me says that unless Calvin Klein or Eddie Bauer can sell them for twenty dollars each they are not going to make it to mainstream fashion. The accessories all look good on you and perhaps I will be bold enough to try them when my hair gets long enough.
