MUST get a trim tomorrow......

Apparently my parents are fed up with the awkward stage. I tend to think that just in the last week or so it has really begun to look like it's actually getting long. I can notice a huge difference. They can't seem to look to the future. I don't know a single person who does not support me in the growing of my hair besides my parents. I even saw a lady the other day that used to be a manager where I work who said that she didn't recognize me with the "longer" hair and that it looked good. My girlfriend was begging me not to get it all "chopped off" when I go tomorrow. I'm kind of dreading it because I know that they're going to take off more than I want no matter how much I explain what I want. I do plan to get the little fine hairs on the back of my neck shaved, though. I keep telling my parents that a trim will only set me back a few weeks, but they don't believe me. If my hair were longer I wouldn't mind this at all but as all of us awkward-stagers know, each millimeter we might lose is pure agony. I'm hoping to get a maximum of 1/8 inch taken off all around. This is supposedly just a "tidy-up" trim. I could get out of it but doing so would be more costly than a few weeks growth (grounded, possibly getting the rest chopped off, etc....) So I guess I'll just live with it. However if they take off too much I'm not paying. *sigh* Well I guess I'll just add a few months to my ponytail-estimate-date of March 1st.
Wish me luck.

Just make sure they leave the top alone. Then you might not have to set the ponytail date back. When my mom made me get a trim I just had them even up the back, and now my bangs(which were not cut) are the only area that won't reach a tail.

An 1/8 of an inch is really not noticible at all, so you could just pretend that you got a trim ^_^ Just kidding, you don't want to piss off the parental units. Always tell them to cut less off than you actually want, because most hairdressers today tend to take off a little more than expected. Tell them what you want BEFORE you get in the chair, and watch them closely in the mirror to make sure they aren't chopping off too much. Protest if they do. Trust me, you'll save a lot of agony. DON'T go to a barber shop, whatever you do. They like nothing better than to hack away. Go to someone you trust.
LOL I'm making this sound like a heart transplant. You'll be just fine.

This is SO true! I used to hate going to the barber or anyone making money by cutting hair when I was a kid. They'd always make stupid excuses just to cut off a little bit more then what I requested. Even people you're supposed to trust will &*(^ you up sometimes. A girl I know asked her mom to even up her hair (she has beautiful long curly hair). She ended up losing 6 inches!!! This is a LOT when you have curly hair.

I always warn people about barbers, because one of my college friends (not a longhair anymore) went to one for a "trim" and came back looking like he was about to be deployed. I wasn't there at the time, so I didn't know what was going on, but I have never trusted barbers since then. Beware the hair choppers, people!

I'm right around your age and hair stage and if I were you I would go to the barber, sit down, walk out, and take the money and spend it on something useful (i.e. slurpees and pizza rolls :P). It's probably not a good idea, but hey thats just me.
