Asked for layers and got a damn mullet!!

Had my hair slightly layered the other day at a stylist, thought my hair looked good but wanted a few face framing layers around my face as well, so a few days later instead of going to the same salon because it was expensive I dropped off at a regular barbers shop. I Walked in and explained to the scruffy looking man who looked like he was an old inbred from the movie delivernace what I wanted. I explained I wanted face framing layers so they start just below eye level and gradually get long around my face, He frowned. I even showed him a picture of sebastian bach- skid row in which he again frowned upon. Told me to sit down and chopped away at my hair. It was after 30 seconds that I realised what a mistake I had made and a mess he made. He cut it all the same length just above ear level to about the end of my ears and left the rest long. Now it looks like a mullet, or the curtain style at the front and long at the back.
I am hoping to grow this hair a bit more above the ears to have it that sebastian bach style and then get it layered at a proper stylist by december, and never go to a barbers.

:never go to a barbers.
Exactly what I always say...you get what you pay for, after all. Sorry about your mullet :-( But don't feel too bad...scroll down and read my post entitled "Hair Nightmare!!". Sh*t happens to everyone, but hair will grow back just as the sun will rise and set.
For the future: don't ever trust a barber who doesn't understand what you want. It seldom turns out well.

It's been my experience that hairstylists often seem to have a problem doing a man's hair in any style that even resembles anything feminine. Sometimes I think it's done on purpose. How could it not be? I'm sure many of us on this board have gone in for a "trim", even to the point of specifying "don't take off more than a 1/4"" and end up with 3" cut off. I don't think that's an accident. I think it's a way of saying "don't come back". I've never been to a barber shop in my life, but I've had the same experience you describe. Finding the right hairstylist is not easy. They're not necessarily expensive, though. Bottom line is, if you find an understanding stylist, stick with her. They may all be trained the same, but they have a unique opportunity to sork out their own predjudices and opinions on your hair!

I agree that it's not only barbers, but the above statement kinda says it all, doesn't it?

Barbers are great. But when it comes to fashion styling, they tend to be more traditional.
You say: "More of a Sebastion Bach style...layered around the face".
Barber hears: "Buzzcut."
Hope you get the style your looking for by December.

Hey! Don't feel bad. I love the 80s mullet. I used to have my ex hubby cut his hair that way. Anyway, I would try wearing it in a pony tail, maybe use gel to slick the front part back, think steven Seagal, its sexy and it makes your face look good.
Good luck, my hair is just past my shoulders and I am struggling too, also read up on MSM on the internet just type in MSM and hair growth. There are saveral studies. MSM is a natural supplement, non toxic you can get it in the vitamin section of your drug store. I take about 2,ooomg a day. What your body doesn't use comes out in your urine.
Makes hair grow healthy and faster. It is only about $5, don't forget biotin you can look that up also.
