I cut em all off....

Not because I wanted it.
Not because my parents wanted it.
Not because I got money.
Just because I have to join the army... (I'm from Austria where "Wehrpflicht" (means basically "You have to go to the army") is a law).
I cut off about 18 month of growth (shoulder length). Because I don't like any short haircut, I have choosen the most convenient one: 10 mm (half an inch) everywhere.
I enjoyed reading this board. Although I didn't post much, It helped me very often.
Im outta here for 8 months. Then I will be back to grow my hair out for the second time (hopefully longer than now).
Just wanted to share, that even if you yourself and your environment doesn't have a problem with long hair, you still get problems you never thought of.

Awwww!! I'm sorry :-( I wish you the best of luck, and think of it this way; you get a fresh start. Any damage or breakage you might have had, it's all gone and you can start over from the beginning. When you start growing it out again, it'll look even better than before!

good luck out there! Its just hair after all. You can always grow it again. But 18 months??? Geez, that still has to hurt just a little...:)
thanks for your Report...

I joined the (Canadian) army as a teenager and yes they cut off all my hair. The experience and self-confidence I gained in those years more than made up for my temporary loss of hair.

In Austria you can choose between military service and civil service. (Red Cross, etc.). So you HAD a choice.
However, I agree that the civil service law is more than unfair. You have to wait many years 'till it starts, and then you have to serve 10 or even 12 months. (compared to 8-9 months military service).
Also, military service starts hard, but then is a joke - and civil service often means 10 to 14 working hours a day. (rescue driver, help elderly people, etc.)
I had luck. I was disqualified for military service (and thus for civil service) because of a cyst in my left humerus. And though my father is in the Austrian army (he is Major, or even higher - don't wanna know), he helped me a lot with that.
I hope for you that you don't get a dork while in the army.
Keep Up
a fellow austrian

Thats why i like to call it "no choice"... You are right, there is a choice... but a very stupid one imo
Thats my last post anyways... its 1:20 AM here and I'm going to bed now, cause I have to get up at around 6:00 in the morning in order to catch my train ...
