What 'hair problems' (if any) have you encountered?
Have people changed their behavior towards you since the time you began...
growing your hair?
* Reactions from strangers, family...friends?
* Problems experienced from your ever-changing hair length?
* Others?

Strangers: Depends on male or female, really! Males are like "Cool hair!" Females are more like... "You have the most GORGEOUS hair! May I play with/braid/do whatever to it?" Most of the time, once people meet me, they start growing THEIR hair out. (???)
Family: I get a lot of positive comments about how good my hair looks. My family members prefer it pulled back (except my mom, who likes it down).
Friends: "Has anyone ever tried to strangle you with it?" *My friend will then proceed to strangle me with my own hair. :p
One of my teacher likes to joke about "I can cut that if you want me to!," but I know she's just kidding around. Otherwise, I've not come across anything negative. Maybe it's the content of my character, and the fact that I wash my hair? Because not even at my church (I do attend a rather liberal Methodist establishment) have I faced ANY discrimination or strange looks. Most longhairs here in Arkansas don't even know what shampoo and/or conditioner are.

I've been lucky and have not had any ugly "hair confrontations".
Yesterday I got my bangs (fringe/frontal hairs) caught in the case of a computer I was repairing. After I finally got myself untangled there were two six-inch hairs, roots and all caught on the case. The loss, while practically insignificant, still stings because they were from the slow-growing *front*. (For the curious, it was a mid-tower case sitting on a workbench. My hair got caught on the top edge where the side door attaches when I was peering inside the case to inspect jumper settings).
Crossing the US border has changed dramatically for me. For a few months this spring I was pulled over and searched almost every time I crossed. (In contrast when I had short hair I was not pulled over once in 23 years). It has gotten easier the last couple of months. I've been shaving and wearing "business casual" on my trips to the border. I don't know if this has helped or if it is just that my hair is getting beyond the scraggly stage.
When I walk my parents' dog in our neighborhood these days the university students are always stopping to chat with me and pet the dog. I even had a couple of (cute) nursing students stop today. I don't remember students being all that friendly when I had short hair. Seriously.
While I was walking downtown a few days ago I began having pangs of self-doubt. It seemed everywhere I went there were dirty, disheveled street-people with long dirty hair. I began to wonder just how different I looked from them. Could people tell the difference? It started to rain and I got quite wet. As I walked under a short tunnel where a lot of homeless usually gather I noticed it was empty except for two police officers. I wondered if the officers were going to harass me, since I was now wet and my hair was stringy and unkempt. Of course they didn't. My rational mind knows that there is a vast difference between my dress and demeanor and any street person, even with the superficial similarity of long hair and the negative thoughts pass quickly. The fact is my desire to have long hair comes from deep within my soul, far beyond the reach of any amount of self-doubt.
Great Story!

Yes, I think everyone has experienced 'pangs of doubt' at one time or another...
It is usually because we do not want perople tp perceive us in a 'negative light.'
Those 'street people' may have dirty, uncared for hair...
so it is up to you to show those around you that this is NOT
the case for all Longhairs.
When doubt is replaced by pride...
you KNOW you've come a long way!
Thanx for sharing your story and...
Good Luck!
