Dan's September Updates
Posted by Dan on September 17, 2003 at 12:19:28: Previous Next
Sorry...a little belated, but here they are.
Basically the same regimen as I've been following for a few months:
-Weekly shampoo with Loreal Curl Vive shampoo
-Showerly (1-3x daily) conditioning with Loreal Intense Smooth conditioner
-Towel wrap/"turban" for 10-15 mins (thanks Jenn!)
-Physique Structuring Gel
-Air dry, no heat, no towel rubbing, no brush, no comb, no spray, no mousse.
Anybody want a container of Loreal Melting Gel? Up for grabs... :-)
As always, comments, compliments, insults, criticism and potshots are welcomed and encouraged!
-DR
It looks great!

Thanks for sharing your pictures with us. 22 months, sheesh... You have a lot of patience and your reward is curly hair that looks great and will keep getting better. Does the Physique Structuring Gel give it weight or hold it down? I need to learn to tie the towel turban. Mine falls off after 10-15 seconds. Congratulations on your excellent progress.

Thanks Gollan and everybody else.
The gel weighs it down a tiny bit, but I use it more to define the curls. I still am not 100% happy with it, but it's closer to what I want than anything else I've tried. I think to really get it to look the way I want, I need to blow dry it, but I'm not quite ready for that yet.
Turban: for me, the key is to hang my head down, and brush all my hair straight down with my fingers. Then position the towel with the long side parallel to the hairline in the back, wrap one side across the forehead, then the other, and keep twisting until the twist grabs the hair on top of your head. Flip your head back over and set the towel like it's a tail hanging down flat across your shoulders. I brush my teeth and shave with it wrapped, which seems to be a good amount of time.

Does this make the hair dry quicker? The first time I saw men doing this was when I saw a documentary featuring the thrash band Testament. I was surprised to see them wrapping it up and using blow dryers in front of the camera as if it were the most natural thing in the world! Of course, nowadays I could care less what people think but this was in the early nineties.
