Wig While at Work

Hello All,
As I approach the ending of my law school journey, the reality of getting a position at a law firm is setting in. I've been kind of daydreaming here and there wondering where I might work. My hair is currently about 8 inches long and I'll surely be able to get it in a tail by the end of the school year next Spring. I started wondering what I'd do if noone hired me as an associate attorney because of my hair. I know that cutting is out of the question for me, but I started thinking about the idea of purchasing a wig, should I be refused by all law firms due to my hair (and to think that being lawyer is at least partially about justice and doing the right thing). I know this might seem a bit outlandish to some, but I guess I'm just preparing myself for the possibility that this might occur.
So, has anyone ever heard of or done anything like this (purchasing a short-haired wig) to avoid cutting their hair due to hair length problems? If so, could you tell your story? I'm curious to know if this has already been done by others. Thanks.

Personally, I think your hair will be fine if you tie it back and keep a crisp appearance. I have seen professional business men with ponytails before, so it should'nt matter too much.
Bewigged...

Wouldn't THAT be a switch!!! Can you just imagine someone
pulling off a short-haired wig to reveal LONG HAIR...
God, what I wouldn't give just to see their faces!
Ps: If you are going to do it someday...please invest in a good quality wig...
cut & adjusted to your head and face...
by a professional!
Good Luck!

I should think that a budding new lawyer would be able to present a very convincing argument on the benefits of longhair in the courtroom !! Skip the wig and be yourself! Good Luck !!

My lawyer has long hair thank you very much. He does a magnificent job for my firm. I vote to skip the "wig" that in my opinion would look ridiculous. They are not hiring the hair they are hiring the person. I am sure some firms are suit n tie n college joe look. Just as sure there are firms that could care less about the length of your hair as long as it is clean and neat, and you present a respectable appearence.

Thanks for the responses. I'll certainly try it without a wig. I'll keep my fingers crossed. :)

Hey Dude - Have you ever heard of Ron Kuby??? He was one half of the CNN News/talk show Curtis & Kuby - I don't believe the show is on anymore.
Ron Kuby is a very high profile longhaired lawyer with a thick long waist length mane of black & gray hair. I believe he was the lawyer for the guys that first tried to blow up the WTC.
You can see more of him at their website: www.curtisandkuby.net.
I think you should keep the long locks no matter what, after all us longhairs need lawyers too... and I think I'd be more comfortable with a longhaired lawyer myself!!!
Good Luck!!!

You already know what to do if no-one will hire you as an associate. Start your own practice.

Before you do anything watch some of the legal discussions
on stations like Fox News, CNN, etc. There are several long
haired "legal" experts (who are I believe are all lawyers) and
have their hair long (in a pony tail).
