Losing strands - yes yet another one...

It's been a while since my last post, been really bussy. But I just HAVE to ask this...
I know it's normal to loose aprox 75-100 strands a day. Because of the terminal length and all that stuff... But is it really normal to loose this much hair (check images) every single morning!?
Somehow it looks like a lot less in the pictures than it did in real life, perhaps some strands have turned "invisible". But anyhow, my hair is about 1-2 inches past the shoulders, the first picture contains aprox 75 strands (yes, I counted them...) and the second one aprox 25 strands. The first 75 strands fell of during pre-combing and first brushing. The other 25 strands fell off during a second, finishing brushing.
That is 100 strands just in the morning! Though it should probably be mentioned that the hair had been in a tail most of the day (except when sleeping), and not been combed or brushed during a 24 hour period. But still, 100 strands!?!? Some has to have fallen of during the day as well, even though the hair has been in a tail, and not combed during the entire day.
First combing and brushing, 75 strands:
Second brushing, after cleansing the sink:
Really appreciate feedback here, thanks.

Let me ask you a question...does the hair on your head look any thinner? Any bald or thin patches? Anything else out of the ordinary? Check your hairline and see if it's receding. If not, you really don't have to worry.
The only other thing I can think of is if you comb your hair when it's soaking wet, or brush it when it's not completely dry. Wet hair is weaker than dry, and breaks fairly easily if you're not careful.

I do comb the hair when wet (if I don't I'll look like a troll or something...). But most strands (I rarely see any that don't) have a small white "thingie" at the end, showing that the strand hasn't been broken of.
My hair is finally getting to the stage where I can call it long. I don't really have any experience of hair the length of this. So I don't know if it's "thinner" or just the length weightening it down.
It feels like it can be a bit thinner than before. But then again as mentioned, it might just be because it is getting longer, so it "feels" thinner (or I am just getting paranoid). If washing the hair at night, it'll has perfect volume the day after. But the next day it feels flat, and dryer. Perhaps from having it in a tail all evening when at home...
However there are no "patches" getting thinner, the overall thickness of the hair is the same all over. It also doesn't look thinner after a wash and it's dried... (it does feel thin when wet, but that's perhaps normal...?)

"thingie" at the end...

If the hairs have a "thingie" at the end...then it is coming from out of your scalp...
and not from breakage.
You mentioned that your hair is almost always in a tail (except while sleeping).
It could be that your day's worth of normal hair 'loss' is happening
when you wash your hair.
Maybe you could leave your hair loose one day...then shower
the next morning...count the hairs and see if the 'loss' still remains
at about 100 hairs per day.
Good Luck!

Hmm... what?
I never said that my hair is almost always in a tail. What I DID say was that the day that the pictures was taken, it had been in a tail all day, except when sleeping. As well as I usually have it in a tail when at home in the evening. I usually have it loose during the day when in public, and sometimes at home.

This one I really don't understand... The problem isn't lack of strands falling of, the problem is too MANY strands falling of... The point of the post was a lot of strands turning up in the sink in the morning when brushing and combing.
Sure I loose a lot when washing the hair as well, but I think I loose a lot more in the morning when brushing/combing. It doesn't look as much in the morning when I've combed 5-6 times the day before (but still more than I would like). But it's really a LOT when not having combed or washed the hair during a 24 hour period. I think 100 strands in the morning when not having combed it in a day sounds like a LOT.

But isn't it average for a person to lose 100 strands of hair a day?
It probably looks like a lot because your hair is longer. Long hairs can make 10 hairs look like a lot!
I would take a multi vitamin every day, and be careful while brushing/combing. That's the best you can do for your hair.

From most sources I've read, 75-100 strands a day is normal. But I got 100 strands just for ONE brushing... And even though I had the hair in a tail all day, I'd think that at least some would slip out during the day, and at least some during the night. Which gives a total of over 100 strands, and that is worrying. Might not be a lot more, but at least some...

That's true, just by getting four strands in my hand when moving it through the hair feels worrying... ;)

Have been taking hair vitamins for over half a year, I hope they do some good...
Thanks for your reply.

I may have been mixing posts I replied to, but I could have sworn you said it had been in a pony tail all day and not combed. That would have made what you saw a whole day's shedding. The pony tail would have kept it in your hair until you washed it.

Now that I think about it, I remember someone (on this board?) saying that your hair usually gets thinner as it gets longer. Don't remember the reason though, but I think it has to do with your hair's growth pattern.
This sounds normal to me *pats Patrik on the shoulder* I think you are worrying yourself unnecessarily. You are lucky that you find very few broken hairs! It means that you're taking good care of your hair. Often (as LucksKind said), if you wear it in a 'tail all day and then wash it, more will come out because it couldn't shed while it was in the 'tail. If you notice, when you wear it down, you'll get those annoying hairs that fall on your arm and tickle you. This is normal hair loss during the day.
If you're really worried (and I don't think you need to be), consult your doctor.

Definitely don't worry about it!!!
It is a proven fact that when you're stressed and/or worried you lose more hair!!!
Hehehe, you could worry yourself bald over losing too many hairs!

Thanks, you're probably right... I hope. It just feels like really a LOT of hair... I am probably just worrying for nothing, but it would feel a lot better if I could find someone who actually loose the same amount of strands as me. But perhaps most people aren't as paranoid as me, and actually count them ;)

Is your hair perfectly straight.....or does it have some curl to it?

It's... weird ;)
"självfall" in Swedish... Not quite straight, and not really curly either. Now when it's starting to really look long, it can look like really long waves.
Anyhow, just bought myself a hair straightener today, so it sure isn't straight.

you are combing and brushing your hair too hard - longer hair needs gentler treatment (although it needs more detangling than short hair as well) There are several places you can look for hair care tips - try links from tlhs.org for a start. Most of it is written by women for women, but the same rules apply to long hair whoever has it.
Also, how old are you? Are you in good health? Have you recently had a change in lifestyle/work etc? That might be relevant.

I don't know if I comb too hard, but I don't think so... I can't see it possible to comb any softer, especially not the brushing.
I am 20, and I am in good health. I have began studying on university, and moved to another city. But I really don't think that's the problem. I am pretty sure I lost the same amount of hair two months ago...
I take it that you think I loose too much hair?

I can't really answer that question, but on balance, if you're losing the same amount as two months ago, then you probably don't have a roblem you need to worry about. I just wanted to suggest a few things which might help you.
