Queer Eye First Episode

Hi all,
We just got the first episode of "Queer Eye For The Straight Guy" in Australia last night, and I was shocked to see them cut the beautiful long hair that Butch had grown for 9 years . They deemed this an "improvement".
Shame on them !
Cheers,
Rob.

I didn't know it took that long for television signals to travel,
heh, just kidding. :-)

Don't be too shocked - 'Butch' wasn't forced into a cut, he
apparently wanted it.

Don't expect too much out of the show. This is the pattern. If there's long hair, it's gone; and they act all noble because it's allegedly going to charity.

That's a crock. Locks for Love (or anything similar) has more hair than it can use, and not enough money to make the hairpieces. They sell about 97% of the hair you donate. It's a wonderful cause, sure, but more longhairs have lost their hair to this charity than I could count on both hands (and feet!)

Years from now they may laugh at the 'styles' that were so popular at the time...

Once again, I find myself defending the guys of Queer Eye. It's gonna be the same points as the last few times this has come up.
Here goes:
- Butch's hair sucked. There's no dancing around that. It was damaged, and he was going bald. Not a pretty combination.
- Unlike many makeover shows, they don't automatically jump to the conclusion that long hair is bad. They did an amazing job on one guy by keeping his hair long, taking off some of the damage at the ends, and styling it. Rather than assuming that long hair must be cut, they assess the situation, and make a judgement based on what they feel would be best.
Okay, I know there's more I wanted to put here, but all the other Queer Eye posts are gone, and there aren't any in the archives yet, so I can't steal arguments from those. Besides, I really should be studying for a psych. test, (class, not clinical) so somebody help me out here. I know there're other guys on here that've defended the guys of Queer Eye before. Help me prove my point.
On an unrelated note, did anyone see the episode where Carson accidentally stabbed Ted in the head with a corkscrew? Now that's good television.

Actually I got the impression that in the episode you are referring to that the guy refused to let them cut his hair short as they made comments as to how much of the hair was he willing to have cut. If so, I am glad he put his foot down - yet he might also now regret that he had so much length cut.

Thanks for all your comments - I won't let the first episode put me off, although, I think this "Locks Of Love" organisation sounds a little scary.
...Maybe we should all trim our hair from "Downunder" and send THAT to them ! ;)
