I want Triple H's Style of Hair

Hi, im new to the boards here and after reading a few of the posts i have a few quick queries.
Im thinking about growing my hair at about sholuder lenth, basically I want my hair like the style of the WWF wrestler Triple H, no longer, for those of you that dont know who he is here is a pic:

The problem is im not 100% sure how to go about it, Iv'e read different views on this board and am a bit confused. Do I let rip and just not get it cut for a few years? When the guy in the picture has his hair in a ponytail, it looks like its trimmed at the base of the neck and around the sideburns , so should I do the same while growing.
At the moment is is about 3 inches long and about 2.5 at the back but its already looking messy, which i accept, but i dont want my hair looking like a mullet soon - eeeugh! - I have this urge to trim the back a lillle and let the top grow.
Can any of you offer some help?
Thanks

You have the right idea of how to get it. Just don't cut if for a couple of years (or longer) until you can get your bangs back in the ponytail or to shoulder length. That's it.
Now since you may not have the exact same hair type as him, don't expect the exact same results. In fact, here we tell most guys who want to look like their favorite celeb to just grow their hair and see what your own unique look is like because that will be the best for you.
Expect to be with your hair for a long time and along the way you have plenty of time to get to know it and decide when to trim it, etc.

Yes, you do just let it grow out. However, I recommend getting trims in the back to avoid the dreaded mullet, and if the ends of your hair get seriously damaged.

ok so you say i should get it trimmed at the back but how much? should it be tapered at the back or just cut straight.
What about the sideburns area cos the hair wont sit dam still and i hate putting it behind my ears.

If you hair is only 3" now then you don't even need to worry about trims for a real long time.
I say this because a lot of guys new to growing their hair out get too hung up on little details that won't even be relevant until later on down the road. You need to see what your hair does after about a year of growth.
Sideburns are totally your choice as to what look you are comfortable with. Some of the hairs on the edges, like sideburns, tend to sort of do their own thing and can depend on how you keep your facial hair. Grow them for awhile and then try a couple of different trims, if you don't like it then you can always grow them out again. Personally I don't like the look of no sideburns and long burns can look like you trying to be like Jason Priestly (trendy), but your face and how you wear your hair when it gets longer can have a lot to do with what you may like.
