should i grow it?

well i'm a newbie here and right naow my hair is 3 inches at it's longest point. My ultimate goal is to grow it long enough to put into a pony tail(like Lorenzo Lamas or Adrian Paul used to have). Anyway, first i want to know about a rough estimate on how long it will take me to grow it that long. I'm slightly paranoid about growing it that long for a few reasons though. I figure that it will look about the way I expect it too, but it's hard to tell right now. anyway, please post your comments. thanks alot! god bless.

chances are, if you're curious right now, you will probably try growing them at some point.
might as well start off now :-)
it will probably take you about 18 months, I guess. I'm at 13 right now and I can tie them, wrap something around it because they need another inch or so, and it looks reasonable... (i guess, some girls told me so.. and they're the judge, if you have one! :)
seriously, the awkward stage isn't all that bad... if you don't take yourself too seriously. it should not be too bad to just react to bad comments with a smile. simple, efficient, and a lot more fun than getting frustrated!
take care

if you don't try it, how will you know? :)
you need to go through it, experience it.. nobody can tell you... try it.. what do you have to lose?

FYI, hair grows at an average rate of about 6 inches a year.
Patience is the key.
Good luck!
PS: I wear a hair piece to cover my bald spot; my hair is 9 and a half inches long.

Alas, it DOES take a long time at growing by only 1/2" per month. You are probably looking at nearly a year and a half. But, if you REALLY want that hair long, there is no other way than to bite the bullet and wait as you go through all kinds of phases. There is just no other way to get there. But............the reward in the end is fabulous! Good Luck.

thanks for the comments guys! the problem is not the waiting, i can deal with that. I"m just not sure about the awkard stages. i forgot to mention that i'm in high school and the fact that i take enough crap from a few people is almost enough to make me not wanna grow it. but i'm one of those guys that doesn't really give a crap what people think. also, i live in a rural part of Arkansas so you don't really have a variety of hair styles out here. anyway, keep givin me ur comments and support!
