Ermmm - Help, I look Like A Tramp!!!

So I had this bright idea of growing my hair long (shoulder lenth-ish)
The problem im having is it looks a complete mess and I fight with everyday to make it look respectable, thats not the main problem see I seem to have this mullet thing going on at the back and its driving me mad, wheras the lenth at the top of my head isnt very long.
WTF am I to do, trimming wont solve the problem, will it?
Or do i need to just wait till it gets some weight to it and kinda flatens it down?

First off, describe your hair type.
IMO;
If you don't like the messy look get some gel on the case (Ones with no alcohol are best).
If your serious about growing it long...cutting is not an option - discard any advice involving scissors.
The look of a tramp isn't bad you know...at least they have character!
Happy growing! :)

Well my hair is quite straight (im asian) but its getting little flicks in it around the ears and back.
Ive tried combing and using gel, its a battle every morning. I think I might just gat a little trim aroung the back to tidy it up.
Keep in mind

The front of most people's hair grows faster in the front of the head than the back. The front will catch up with the back's length at some point.

I see two options.
1) Trim the back up, so that all your hair grows in somewhat evenly, if you cannnot live with the temp "mullet" look.
2) Leave it and trim it all up once your top and sides are a little past your desirable length.
Good luck with growing your hair out.
