What should do with the back stuff???

Okay guys, advice time:
Check out this picture of the back of my neck. The "fringe" below the tail is driving me nuts. It doesn't grow long; I grew for over a year and I found that it has a very short terminal length which doesn't reach the pony. Should I shave it off? Keep trimming it? Would it be too high for a hairline if I shaved it off?

i see this a lot on guys with long hair...and like you, i think it looks a little messy...you've got great hair as i recall from previous posts.
my advice would be to keep it trimmed by whoever trims your hair anyway. something like a slight undercut (i ralize many in here are running in horror at the mention of it!) for me, that has always been the purpose of an undercut....to neaten up the fringe mess that so often plagues us guys.
i couldn't really tell if you had trimmed it or if a salon had trimmed it, but if you have, then let it grow out a bit, and then have the salon trim it out for you.

shave it if you wear your hair in a ponytail often. It will clean up the look. If you wear your hair loose mostly, then don't worry about it. It doesn't look "bad" by any means. Its just better to have a cleaner look if your more a ponytail guy. Good luck with whatever you decide. feel kinda bad for you that those hairs just kinda stopped growing.....

Yeah, he he, the mention of undercut here scares them even worse than
saying buzzcut!?

that back thin hair that doesnt grow long for some reason is annoying. for some reason i dont think women seem to have this problem? Anyway, to make it look neat and tidy (and comfortable) i get my hairdresser to shave it, it makes your ponytail look much neater and tidyer at the back:)

I think it looks fine as it is.
I guess it comes down to personal choice...and for me i just don't like any...ummm...'procedure' involving scissors.
One of the things i like (and feel) about long hair is that to a certain extent it is a natural look and shaving this area would make it (the look) somewhat artificial.
Ultimately it comes down to preference but me, i say leave it alone.

I had a similar problem and used to cut my fringe neck hair short but I no longer do so. This hair grows very slowly but in due time much of it may reach your pony tail. It only has to be maybe 6 inches long to tie into the pony tail. After I left my fringe neck hair uncut for about 2 years I found that most of it blends well into my pony tail which is currently over 3 feet long. What I see in the photo does not look all that bad to me and I would just leave it alone.

I usually wear my hair in a tail and I've opted to keep the back fuzzies shaved. Evereyone is different, but mine will never be able to get tied in the tail, just looks messy. But each head of hair is different.
If you are worried about the hairline looking too high, you can always tie the tail lower. But all this depends on you. If you wear your hair down most of the time maybe you don't even need to worry about it. In fact it looks like now if you tied the tail lower, it might be unnoticable.

you haven't cut that hair in a year? It looks like it has recently received an undercut.
You could smooth it back toward the pony with gel. I wouldn't cut it anymore. It will get there.
It actually looks like an intentional undercut with a pony.

No, I previously grew it for a year. I had the part that doesn't grow out cut short about 2 months ago, so my options are only to keep it short and neat-looking, or shave it off. Letting it grow simply doesn't work for me.

You shouldn't have cut it. It may just grow slower than the rest. Cutting it will just slow it's progress.
But, since you're now saying your hair is too heavy and you're beginning to consider a cut...maybe you should have it thinned a bit?

You have great hair when it's down. I'm always one to tell people to keep the kitchen sink clean. Old hair expression. Means not letting the neck get too nappy. LOL. Of course, you've already received some great advice. Personnally, I like a nice clean neck on anyone.
