A question for BR Gallagher...

I saw my first "Queer Eye..." last Friday. It was quite entertaining to say the least. But, I was bothered by the so-called makeover regarding the subject's hair. He stated that he had been growing it for six or seven years and was quite proud of its look and length. But, true to form, the guys talked him into cutting it short. The final "do", I thought, looked terrible. They did let him keep some length in the bags although they were of different lengths and had a unkempt wispy look. So, I would like to ask BR Gallagher what he thought of the haircut...assuming he saw the show. It seems that men's hair styles are now of more length and with the use of blunt cuts...a style I think is great. Any of you guys have any thoughts on the show?

I also just saw the show for the first time. Are you talking about the blonde guy? I do think his hair looked like heck, but I don't think they needed to cut it all off.
They could've given it some realistic color, conditioned it, and cut off some of the damage. Maybe a more up-to-date style, but still long.
That show is hillarious....gay guys telling a straight guy what to do for a girl. What's next? A bunch of straight guys telling a gay guy how to catch a man? Wait, wait.....how about a bunch of gorgeous women giving a gay guy a makeover to suit THEIR tastes? Give me a break..........

I can't stand the show (and I'm gay)!
Why is it that makeover always means haircut?
Question: "How long will my hair grow?"
Answer: "If you cut it you'll NEVER know!"

Because long hair on a guy is very noticable, so cutting it is
the most abrupt change you can make on a guy. On a TV show that
lasts a short time, they go for the most dramatic change.

I saw my last "Queer Eye..." months ago. It was quite bland to say the most. Their basic premise that straight guys haven't a clue about style when it comes to interior design, wardrobe and/or hair is downright offensive to me--a men's personal image consultant for the past 20+ years and straight all my life. I am particularly bothered by any men's makeovers in which the only action to be taken with long hair is cutting--especially if the subject has been growing it for six or seven years and is quite proud of its look and length. I didn't see this particular show, James, but I can tell you I would have liked the final "do" even less than you did given the circumstances. When a guy comes into our men's grooming center for a "change of style", he is asked "why". His response is the particular problem he is having with his hair--many times solved by simply styling (rearranging) the hair WITHOUT cutting. A basic example: locating and using a person's natural part in order to work with his hair's natural growth pattern instead of fighting it (as in parting the hair exactly in the middle and trying to get both sides to look/lay exactly the same). Basically, I am with you, James--I think maximum length cut blunt is a great look on guys--and it gives a true haircare professional lots of creative styling options without ever having to pick up a pair of shears.

Thanks, BR for your response...I somehow thought you would agree with me. But wanted to get the opinion of the master. James
