Hey guys,
I have become fed up with teh same spikey hair style that I have had for like 6 years now. I am 18, and I want to let it grow now. I want to grow my hair to the style like Brad Pitt had in "The Mexican" http://movies.yahoo.com/shop?d=hc&id=1800018965&cf=pg&photoid=171288&intl=us . Currently my hair looks pretty muhc like this length : http://movies.yahoo.com/shop?d=hc&id=1800018965&cf=pg&photoid=232588&intl=us
How long should that take me? Lol and sorry for the Brad Pitt examples, don't want to sound like a homo, but always like the hairstyles this guy goes with!

Welcome to this board. It should take you about 18 months if you are going for that particular length, which is not terribly long as longhairs go.
Be aware that that there are guys on this board who are gay and who are straight and likely various expressions in between, and while you probably meant no offense, the reference to "sounding like a homo" is offensive to many, gay and straight.
This is a really friendly, helpful place for guys who are growing out their hair. One of the many things you learn when you grow your hair long as a man is that stereotypes are really not helpul, and that most of us defy most stereotypes.
Not sure what a "homo" sounds like. Nor what a "hetero" would sound like. Men talking about their hair and what they want to do with it, and what concerns they have about it just sound like men talking about their hair.
Make sense?

If you are going to grow your hair long then you will need to develop patience as your number one attribute.
Two months of growth is basically nothing, try looking ahead for two years or so. You have to realize that your hair does what it does by itself at it's own pace and all you have to do is go about things as you normally do from day to day and time will pass.
If you aren't really committed to the idea of growing your hair for a long time then you probably won't make it and if you are growing it to try a new style that you saw on your favorite celeb then you may not keep it very long. Just some things to keep in mind.

Thanks a lot for the responses guys!
I am a pretty clean cut kid, preppy type I guess you could say, so I am not trying to like grow "rocker" hair. I just want something longer and different than what I have now. Something fashoniable I guess you could say.

That's fine by me. I am just releived that short hair is going out of style again. It's always so tiresome when really short hair is in. Collar length hair appears to be in, now. Mine is much longer, but I feel more comfortable around people with noticeable amounts of hair.

There's no question: in two months time, you will be sick of your hair. You have to get through the so called "awkward stage". There are no shortcuts here. Just a process. You want to do it. Jump in and stay the course until it is the length you now want, then wear it that way for a few months. By then, you will be in a totally different place, and any predictions you thought you could make now will seem superfluous.

Look for one of Treyn's posts on this board, then follow the link to his website. He has great pics of his hair all along the way as he grows his hair. This might give you a good idea of what to expect.
The "awkward phase" is not fun, I must admit, but you'll get through it if you are patient and cultivate a sense of humor and wonder about the growth of your hair. Good luck!

maybe you should grow up and learn about discrimination before you become a long hair

Hey, if heterosexual people are supposed to be tolerant of homosexuals, then it should also work the other way.
I don't think he meant any offense by it. I'm straight, and while your sexual preference is your business, I (as a heterosexual) don't want to put myself out there as a homosexual. Things like "Didn't mean to sound like a homo" are merely tag lines that can be used to clear up any mis-understandings about the posters sexuality. Not all straight people are gay-bashers.
Anyways, that's off-topic, on to the hair: I totally agree with Hair Religion on this issue. I started growing my hair out thinking in terms of months and such, and I've grown as I realize that it is a LOOONG term project, and can even become a lifelong journey. Do not become so obsessed with the destination that you take no joy in the journey. Your hair will continue to grow even when you stop to smell the roses.

In this particular post, what does sexuality have to do with hair? Why did he have to use the word "homo" at all?
And what if someone mistakes someone for being gay on an internet hyperboard.....big deal! Is that a bad thing when the topic has nothing to do with sexuality?

I think Robert's initial guestimation of 18 months was a little bit too long. You should be able to achieve that style in under a year. Pitt's hair is still basically short in the goal picture you provided.
What you should do it not cut your hair for about 10-12 months and then go to a salon with that photo and say "I want my hair to look like that." Pitt's hair looks like it is different lengths.
Since it is still a shorter cut, it will be easier to replicate.
Hope this helped.
P.S. If you think Brad Pitt has good hairstyles, have you given much thought to his current look?

Hey Redleader,
I completly overlooked your post! Sorry... Thanks for the reply, good to hear it wont take 18 months (that seemed a little long to me, especially since my hair seems to grow pretty fast).
P.S.- HELLLS NO! LOL if your talking about his homeless look, I don't think I could pull that off just yet. My hair has never been longer than my ears, the length I want it at now would take some getting used to, let alone going for what he is doing currently! LOL thanks for the suggestion though!
